A JOURNEY TO SUBTERRANIA LOST, FORGOTTEN, HIDDEN BEYOND THE MIST, SUBTERRANEAN, PORTALS THE SECRET WORLD OF MAGIC ISLAND NORTH MANITOULIN REVEALLED BY PROFESSOR MAGIC MacNIGHT DR. OF HIDDENOLOGY JOURNEY TO SUBTERRANIA
In the air, above us, below us, around us, there are hidden secrets waiting to be revealed. They can be found beyond the mists, through swirling vortexes, sub aquatic portals, down long dark and glimmering caves and, just out your own back door if you know where to look. My name is Magic MacNight. I am a Dr. of Hiddenology, and a Professor of Secretology. • My interest in Manitoulin Island began when I was a child and was whisked away on a fantastic adventure beyond the realm of accepted reality. Now in my senior years and no longer afraid to disclose my discoveries I have decided to share the Hidden Secrets of Spirit Island. It has taken me a lifetime to uncover the wonders some others would prefer never to be revealed. Be prepared to learn the elements of your island world that have so long been subject to Eyes Only classified files. IT ALL BEGAN WITH A JOURNEY TO SUBTERRANIA I was a kid but old enough to go off exploring on my own. I was doing just that in mid July. I had wandered down a road allowance to Long Lake. To my surprise there was a funny looking round boat half hidden in the reeds.
There was a note: Yours to use but please respect my property. Explore the little island. There is adventure waiting. It was initialed: J.F. I climbed into the little round boat and started paddling almost silent as I took my first steps on the island following a narrow trail that wound into the woods. It was a small island, so I soon found myself in about the centre of it and there, deep and dark was a hole about three feet in diameter with a rope hanging into it. The rope was tied to a tree securely. Then something happened that no kid can deny. I got a real bad case of curiosity and before I could think about it, I was climbing down the rope. The deeper I went the darker it got, and I was glad I had my penlight with me, tucked away in my backpack. I also keep a Swiss army knife in the pack as well. I went down and down. It seemed like I would never across the lake to the island. It took a bit of a learning curve to keep the boat from going around in circles and moving forward, but I finally got it and before long I ran it aground on the shore of the island where it looked like it reach the bottom and my arms were getting tired and began to ache. It made it worse when the light at the top of the shaft diminished to point then blinked out complete. I was beginning to think about turning back when suddenly, there in the pitch black my feet struck ground. I quickly drew out my flashlight. I found myself in a tunnel. had been drawn up before. There was even a piece of thin rope to tie it off with. I can’t ever remember the wind being so still and a quiet,
It went nearly level as far as the beam of my light would go. The air was cool and a little damp. with a cloudless purple and pink sky. The water I had heard was a river that flowed out from the city and disappeared somewhere under the tunnel. It was a city that looked old and new and futuristic all at once. I stood for a long time just staring at the metropolis expanse. Then I saw some-thing even more incredible. Flying vehicles, like a cross between a car, an ultra light plane and a boat. • The descent had seemed like for ever but as I hiked forward following the spot of light that my flashlight cast upon the ground the tunnel seemed to stretch on further than forever. Not only was I getting tired but now I was thirsty and hungry. I had a bottle of water in my pack though and a trail mix hiking pack, so I took a bit to nibble and a sip of water. • After what seemed like hours though I saw a light ahead, and the light grew until I realized I was coming to the end of the tunnel. And I could hear water flowing. • Then, though it was more like gradual, it seemed sudden the tunnel open wide and beyond I saw a huge cavern city
range. After a brief tour, the drone began to descend toward the main entrance of a medieval castle. As I drew nearer, I spied someone waiting at the gate. Suddenly a drone fitted with a passenger chair rush up to me. An electronically generated voice instructed me to sit in the chair. I was a little hesitant at first, then a real voice said, Welcome. You are in no danger. I climbed into the chair and was whisked away. I was surprised at the quickness of the drone and how smooth it flew. It took me quite high, and I could see a great section of the city, but I could see that it went on far beyond my visual
Maybe I should have been startled, or at least amazed but when the drone set me off at the castle door and I was met by a blue skin alien with big black eyes it almost felt like things were happening just the way they should be. “Welcome Magic MacNight,” said the alien. “I am Hogasha.” “Ah, ok, but how do you know my name?” I asked, a little cautiously. “You told me. With your mind.” Hogasha replied and I realized that we were communicating well but we were not talking. “That’s a little scary.” I said out loud. “It takes humans a little time to get use to our silent, telepathic communications.” My host advised gently. “Please come into the castle to meet Ishnada, our Director.” There are lots of stories out there about alien creatures living among us, but I never thought that they would be under us right here on Manitoulin island. But here they were, and I was beginning to wonder what they were up to and why they hid from us. So far though I didn't feel that they were dangerous.
Ishnada did something with her mouth that looked like a smile, an inhuman version of course but a smile none the less. “Come with me. I will show you.” She replied vocally. Her voice was musical and whispering but loud enough to hear clearly. She led me to the steps, and we went up to a portal that glimmered with multi-coloured lights. Ishnada seemed to be lost in thought as we approached, and naked. But when she noted our presence and stood, I saw she was wearing a red robe. I sensed a tickle in my mine and heard, “Greetings Magic MacNight. We are curious how you came here. Your mind tells us you descended to our city, Subterrania through a hole in the surface.” “That’s about right.” I replied verbally then told her the whole story. I had a bucket full of questions but the first one out my mouth was, “Who are you and where are you from?”
As we neared the top I could see more and more what awaited beyond and I was in awe. When we stepped out onto an iron platform it seemed like a whole galaxy opened up before us, but then it focused on a beautiful world with two suns, one blue and the other was white and there were a million stars glimmering in the background. I could only see one moon, but Ishnada told me there were five and that two of the moons were inhabited by humans who were brought from earth long ago when earth’s natural order was in great chaos. something else that stayed with me all through my young years and prompted me to chose a direction in my life. It was a direction my folks would have preferred I had not taken because it didn’t make sense to them. It was what guided me to find my way to the island and discover its magic, the kind of magic that defies reality and requires one to view the visible world from a different perspective. I asked Ishnada if I could visit her world and the humans living there. She said I could one day, but not just yet. “For now, return to the surface and learn all you can about the world you live in. There is much more to it than you see. There is much more to your island domain that meets the naked eye. I was too young at the time to comprehend what the director meant but some version of chaos sparked my imagination and
I was returned to the surface with the aid of a remote self guiding drone which dropped me off near the hole I had dropped down into Subterrania through, but after the drone descended out of sight the rope and hole disappeared. I also studied the many different and magical aspects of the Magic Island North. You would be astonished what I found hidden behind Bridal Veil Falls. So, until next time this is Professor Magic MacNight signing off to go explore another place in the world of Hiddenology and Secretology to be written into the Tome of Spirit Island Wonders.
