  1. First Pregnancy Ultrasound: what to expect All pregnant women wonder that what their babies will look like, and more importantly, whether they will be healthy. An ultrasound can help women to know all the important information inside the womb. Furthermore, you will learn a bit more about your baby’s expected due date and well-being. The first-trimester ultrasound is usually done in between of 7th to 8th weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period. The main thing is to confirm pregnancy dating to make sure that you have an accurate due date. Furthermore, you can also do this first-trimester ultrasound to screen for genetic problems, as well as to find any issues with your uterus. If you are anxious to know the baby’s sex, you will have to wait a bit longer. The gender reveal, as well as more info about your baby’s functioning, will come at your next ultrasound, in-between the 18 to 22 weeks of your pregnancy. The ultrasound can be done in two ways; transabdominal (over your belly) or transvaginal (into your vagina). You will get a transvaginal ultrasound if it’s very early in your pregnancy because it produces a more accurate image of your fetus. For a transabdominal ultrasound, you have to come with a full bladder. The main reason behind this is that the full bladder tilts your uterus up and moves your intestines out of the way to provide easy viewing of a fetus. This ultrasound is done after week 6 or 7. Onto your belly, a gel is rubbed to help the sound waves move more easily. After this, a transducer is rubbed over the abdomen area to produce images of your baby. The main thing to know is that the type of ultrasound you will get depends on how far along you are in your pregnancy period.
