  2. King and Queen of Sweden inspect the ship. Ostindieship Götheborg is a replica of the East Indians with the same name (Götheborg), who in 1745 went ashore and sank at the Hunnebådan in the harbor of Gothenburg. Ostindieship Götheborg has a total length of 58.5 meters and the peak of the main mast 47 meters above the waterline. In 1986, a marine archaeological excavation of the original ship started. Construction began in 1995 and eight years later Götheborg was launched. For 20 months between 2005 and 2007, the ship sailed the historic route to China and back home.

  5. Andrée's Arctic balloon expedition of 1897 was an effort to reach the North Pole in which all three expedition members perished. S. A. Andrée , the first Swedish balloonist , proposed a voyage by hydrogen balloon from Svalbard to either Russia or Canada, which was to pass, with luck, straight over the North Pole on the way. The scheme was received with patriotic enthusiasm in Sweden, a northern nation that had fallen behind in the race for the North Pole. Andreé and friends Strindberg, Frenkel, Svedenborg.
