Cement By Dilkhush Meena
Introduction Cement is a dry powdery substance made by calcining lime and clay, mixed with water to form mortar or mixed with sand, gravel and water to make concrete. It is a binder material. According to Indian Standards, it is classified into three grades, 33 Grade, 43 Grade, 53 Grade cements.
Types of Cement 1- Ordinary Portland Cement 2- Portland Pozzolana Cement 3- Low Heat Cement 4- Rapid Hardening Cement 5- Extra Rapid Hardening Cement 6- White Cement 7- Quick Setting Cement
Ordinary Portland Cement It is one of the most widely used types of Portland cement. The name Portland Cement was named by Joseph Aspdin in 1824 due to its similarity in color and its quality when it hardens like Portland stone. Portland Cement is a fine powder that when mixed with water becomes the binding material that holds aggregates together in concrete.
Uses of OPC 1- Bridges 2- Dams 3- Railway Structures 4- Tanks 5- Water Pipe 6- Pavements
Chemical Composition in opc Lime (CaO) 60 to 67% Silica (SiO2) 17 to 25% Alumina (Al2O3) 3 to 8% Iron oxide (Fe2O3) 0. 5 to 6% Magnesia (MgO) 0.1 to 4%
Portland Pozzolana Cement Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) is manufactured by a combination of pozzolanic materials. Pozzolana is an artificial or natural material that has silica in it in a reactive form. Along with pozzolanic materials in specific proportions, PPC also contains OPC clinker and gypsum
Uses of PPC 1- Hydraulic Structures 2- Marine Works 3- Sewage Pipea 4- dams 5- buildings
Chemical Composition In PPC Lime 66% Silica 19% Alumina 6% Iron oxide 1.5%
Rapid Hardening Cement Rapid hardening cement is a special type of cement that achieves high strength in less time. Normally the strength achieved by conventional cements in 7 days is same as the strength achieved in 3 days. This type of cement is also called as High-Early Strength Portland Cement.
