  2. • Does the planet need saving? • What does the term green marketing mean? • How does green marketing help in saving the environment? • How does green marketing helps in staying ahead of the competition? • Green spreads calmness and purity. • Green marketing is the marketing which is concerned with the protection of the environment. It is the color of purity and quality; meaning neutral and matured facts, free from any ambiguity and exaggeration.

  4. • Rapid economic growth, • Comfortable and luxurious lifestyle, • Severe competition, • Mass production with the help of advanced technology, • Use of unhealthy marketing strategies and techniques to lure customers, • Retailing and distribution by giant MNCs, • Creation of multinational companies, • Liberalization and globalization, et-cetera.

Need for Green Marketing Practices • Global warming • Government policies, rules and regulations • Opportunities and competitive advantage over companies that don’t follow it • Need for conservation of Mother Nature • Exploitation of human beings (labor et-cetera) • Competition with other businesses that practice green marketing

  7. Green Marketing • It is the practice of selling goods and services based only on their environmental benefits. Such goods or services are produced by an eco-friendly method or may be environmentally friendly, including the following:

  8. • No use of excessive packaging • Manufactured in sustainable manner • Manufactured from renewable materials • Designed to be repairable and not "throwaway (s)" • Recyclable or are produced from recycled materials • Shall not contain toxic materials or ozone- depleting substances

  9. Sustainable Development • Businesses that are committed to sustainable development and CSR practice green marketing. Sustainable business practices focuses on making the products more attractive to consumers and also it also reduces unwanted expenses like energy/water usage, packaging and transportation et-cetera.

  10. • These products are manufactured with positivity that consumers will buy these products considering it their responsibility towards saving the environment. With this positivity, it is also believed that they will be willing to pay a premium as well; though first they need to be made aware of its benefits and the brand needs to be credible enough for them to trust and then buy. • Green marketing is the answer to it. It can be used for encouragement and awareness and towards green products.

Challenges with Green • Lack of awareness • People refrain to pay a premium for such products • False claims and deceptive advertising • Costly renewable and recyclable materials • Difficulty in educating customers about the advantages • Expensive technologies for R&D departments and implementation & assembly processes

Conclusion • Companies follow green marketing for reasons like: • Competitors are following it • They believe in conserving the environment • They wish to maintain a positive image of their brand • They want to have a competitive advantage • They are forced by the Government rules and regulations
