  2. INTRODUCTION TO NONPROFITS IN THE US Over 1.8 million nonprofit organizations in the US, representing nearly 6% of the economy. Categories include churches, schools, foundations (40%), and trade/professional associations (15%).

  3. FOUNDING OF WOMEN IN TRUCKING ASSOCIATION (WIT Established to represent women in the trucking industry. Mission: Encourage employment of women, address obstacles, and celebrate member success. Over 8,000 members in ten countries.

  4. CHALLENGES OF STARTING A NONPROFIT Nonprofit failure rate: 50%. WIT formed in 2007, amid the recession. Achieved 500 members in the first year, with a focus on executing the mission to gain support.
