Freak on a leash by Korn Music video analysis https://youtu.be/jRGrNDV2mKc
The opening section • The video begins by showing some animated suburban houses with their lights off, whiles the lights are off there the sound of radio static which may suggest, right at the music starts the lights turn on, suggesting that the music sparks something in whoever is inside the house.
As the animated section progresses, we close up shots of kids getting ready to leave their homes. While this happens we see interlaced shots of kids running through dark streets showing that they’re trying to be secretive. • In one of the shots we see someone grabbing a portable cd player next to a Korn album. This may represent that Korn may believe they have a rebellious influence on young people.
We then see the kids running towards a barb wired fence, with a no trespassing sign, with an empty wasteland behind it. This may represent how many young people feel an urge to be rebellious and go against authority just for the thrill of it. The shots of a policeman in an outpost while kids run past, may represent how law enforcement can fail at enforcing. His outpost is also filled with rubbish, also adding to this idea of law enforcement being lazy.
All the children then assemble at a hopscotch game at the edge of a cliff, which may represent how young people are willing to take risks in order to get what they want. • The policeman notices the kids too late and rushes out with a gun. The fact he has a gun to deal with children may represent how the police may rash decisions under pressure. He then drops the gun nearly killing the girl at the edge of the cliff.
The live action section • The bullet passes through a poster into the real world, this may represent how things that happen in media and story’s can happen in real life to an extent. • For the rest of the video, it follows the bullet shot from the cartoon section, as it goes through stuff un impeded, this bullet may represent the damaged one bullet can do almost like a rebellious statement against the government.
The shots of them playing in a room filled with bullet holes could, represent that they or whatever they stand for can’t destroyed or stopped. • In this video, there are several instances imagery of children. One of these shots shows the bullet popping balloons, This could mean that childhood innocence may be fading in a modern age. It could also represent how short childhood is, and how childhood imagination gets ruined by the harsh truths of the real world.
The bullet goes through several locations throughout this music video. The next locations after the birthday party all feature some kind of occupation and or adult at work. Some of these include: A diner, an office, a bakery, a gas station. The bullet shooting through all of these locations could represent the fragility of these systems and society as a whole.
The bullet then enters a korn poster, where the band are playing. the band then begin to control the bullet, This could represent how they are rebelling against authority.
The band sends the bullet back where it came from where it then makes it back into the animated world. This may represent how authority, and the powers they have don’t affect them. • The little girl from the beginning stops the bullet with mind which shocks the officer which may represent how authority underestimates youth.
