Medicare is a federal health insurance plan. If you are 65 years of age or older, you can enjoy Medicare. If you have a disability or end-stage kidney disease, you can also get Medicare at the age of 18 years or older. The Medicare plan provides basic insurance to help pay for medical expenses, hospitalization, and surgery. It is broken into 4 parts, part A,B,C and D. Also it should be noted that Medicare and Medicaid are two different things. Medicaid does not include medicare in it.

What are the parts of Medicare? Medicare Part A Part A covers things like inpatient hospital stays, some home health care and skilled nursing facility care. Medicare Part B Part B (medical coverage) covers things like doctor visits, outpatient services, X-rays and lab tests, and preventive screenings. Medicare Part C Part C is also known as Medicare Advantage. Private health insurance companies offer these plans. When you join a Medicare Advantage plan, you still have Medicare. Medicare Part D Part D covers prescription drugs. Only private health plans offer it.
