  1. Common pros and cons of wearing a school uniform

  2. Index • Pros for School Uniform • Cons for School Uniform

  3. Pros for School Uniform • Smartness-Every day wearing a school uniform creates a sense of smartness and confidence among pupils, making them look more professional to the general public and inspiring them to be proud of their own appearance. • Level playing field-Because everybody is expected to wear the same clothing, there is no debate about what children wear and it is easy to break down the social barriers between different pupils, thereby minimizing the possibility of bullying.

  4. A feeling of inclusiveness-When all students are dressed in the same garb, they will naturally feel part of a team and create amongst themselves a greater sense of community. This encourages good relationships with each other and strengthens their ability to function as a team. • Discipline-Children wearing uniforms are likely to be aware that they represent their school, which in turn will make them more able to attend their classes and act with greater compunction.

  5. Time saves-If there's a uniform policy in place at the school , parents don't have to spend time choosing what their kids will wear every morning. Around the same time, once uniforms are in place a common dress code is much simpler for teachers to follow.

  6. Children’s Clothing and School wear

  7. Cons for School Uniform • Personality-A student who has to wear a uniform is less capable of expressing his or her own sense of identity, rather than being forced to adhere to the standards society puts upon them. • Sexism-Any school that adopts a uniform policy designating different clothing pieces for various genders (such as pants for boys and skirts for girls) stifles people's ability to express themselves as they see fit and may worsen mental health concerns.

  8. Independence-When students are determined what they can and can't wear, they can resist making their own decisions and postpone the transition from an adolescent to an adult, thereby negatively impacting their ability to become autonomous. • Lump sum outlay-Although uniforms often turn out cheaper than regular clothing when purchased individually, the daily wardrobe of a child is usually built up over time. On the other hand, school uniforms usually represent a one-off but not inconsistent cost which can put pressure on the budget of a family.

  9. Performance-Despite the common belief that uniforms can help increase student grade averages and exam results, this is backed up by little or no empirical evidence. Success is more connected to teaching content and individual skill than any dress code. • Outlook for students-In the UK, uniforms are nearly universal, but are less common in the US – and students themselves are strongly opposed to their implementation. A survey carried out in 2017 showed that 82 per cent of those surveyed said they prefer to wear their own clothing.
