The side windows and the back of the car are made up of tempered glass. Tempered glass is made up by using rapid heating and cooling methods. In the event of an accident, or when a car is hit by any object, the tempered glass does not shatter; instead, it breaks down into tons of pebble like tiny pieces. These tiny pieces are usually dull and are not sharp like ordinary glass. Due to the specific process of manufacturing, tempered glass is usually harder and stronger than the regular glass of the same thickness. Tempered glass generally does not break.
