3. ABOUTUNIVERSITY Established in 1987, KUVEMPU University was formerly called the Sahyadri University. Moreover, it an autonomous not-for-profit interdisciplinary higher education institute under the control of the Karnataka Government. Furthermore, KUVEMPU University is located in the industrial town of Bhadravathi in Shivamooga, Karnataka. As a matter of fact, KUVEMPU has recognition from the top-level national government bodies including the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). 6. HISTORY Undoubtedly, the main idea to establish KUVEMPU University was to provide quality higher education to the rural youth in a traditionally modern style. As a result, the state government of Karnataka laid the foundation stone of KUVEMPU University via Act Number 28 on 29th June 1987. As a matter of fact, KUVEMPU University is named after the celebrated Kannada poet – KUVEMPU. To clarify, he was a person of many talents such as a poet, copy wright, critic and novelist. That is to say, KUVEMPU is one of the greatest Kannada poets of the 20th century.

9. INFRASTRUCTURE Library: Undoubtedly, KUVEMPU University has a digitally equipped library. During its foundational months in 1987, the library functioned as a part of the Post Graduate Centre. For this reason, it was under the direct control of the University of Mysore. Furthermore, the own resources of the KUVEMPU library were placed at B.R. Project temporarily. However, the library shifted its building in 1988 to the headquarters – Sahyadri Campus. Lastly, KUVEMPU University built the new library at its own campus in Shivamooga. As a matter of fact, the library has a huge collection of literary resources including 120960 books, 6165 back volumes, and 3633 theses.
