  3. ABOUTUNIVERSITY Karnataka University is located in the Dharwad district of Karnataka. The State of Karnataka established the university in 1949. Moreover, the University Grants Commission approved the institution with the “Potential for Excellence”. This university is also the second oldest in the state of Karnataka. Additionally, the university has five constituent colleges which offer both UG and PG program in various disciplines including Education, Law, Fine Arts, Commerce, Arts and Science. The NAAC has also accredited the university and they also offer courses in PG and Doctoral levels. The main departments in the university are Management studies, social sciences, and science. The admissions for all the PG courses are based on merit and the entrance exams. Moreover, for the UG courses, the admissions are completely based on merit.

  5. HISTORY The State of Karnataka established the university in 1949 and since then the university has had rapid developments. G.S Paramasivaiah was the secretary of the KLE Society in Belgaum and he contributed to the foundation of the university. Additionally, the first Vice-Chancellor of the university, D.C Pavate played a major role in the early development of the university. A majority of the regions, including the Manipal Institute of Technology were under this university for quite some time. Additionally, after 1965, more districts were bifurcated which led to the reduction of Karnataka University’s affiliations. However, the university has colleges in Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, and Dharwad.

  7. COURSES Karnataka University offers courses in PG, PhD and Diploma levels. Some of them include: MSc with many specialisations, for a duration of two years. The university offers many subjects under MSc, some of them are Computer Science, Zoology, Statistics, Physics, Microbiology, Mathematics, Applied Genetics, Applied Geology, Geography, Electronics, Chemistry, Botany, Biotechnology and Biochemistry. Karnataka University also offers M.A in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Political Science, Philosophy, Library and Information Science, Mass Communication and Journalism, History and Archaeology, Jainology, Economics, Criminology and Forensic Science, Anthropology, Ancient Indian History and Epigraphy. All these come under the Department of Social Sciences. Other courses under Art are Music, Sanskrit Urdu and Persian, Marathi, Linguistics, Hindi, Foreign Languages, English Folklore and Kannada.

  8. COURSES Additionally, Karnataka University also offers MTA and MBA, both for two years. They also offer LL.M and M.Com with specialisations in Corporate Secretary and General. Moreover, M.Ed is for a duration of one year. The candidates are required to apply for the PG courses through the website, whereas, for MBA and MTA courses, the candidates have to sit for the PG-Common Entrance Test. The CPAC conducts this test for the students. Moreover, there is distance learning as well. Some of the PhD courses include Business Management, Education and Science. The students should have a qualifying score in JRF, SLET, NET, or GATE, if not they will also have to sit for the entrance test.

INFRASTRUCTURE Library Karnataka University has a collection of more than 4lakh books and also has more than 4000 e-journals, which immensely helps the students get insight while conducting research studies. Moreover, the library also has a reading all and other reading facilities for the students. A separate reading room is built for students who are physically challenged. The university also has something called the Green Library, which aims in keeping nature close while developing different aspects of culture and knowledge. Moreover, this place is specifically used by students and faculty for group discussions, a corner for art, photographs and the like. Additionally, as the name suggests, it has a green space which is maintained by the staff on a daily basis. Hostel Karnataka University has accommodation facilities for both boys and girls. Moreover, there are separate buildings for both and there is also a mess that provides hygienic and healthy food. They provide food three times a day, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  10. Additionally, there are some basic amenities for the students in the hostel which include cots, table, chairs, fans, and many others. There are 21 hostels in total, they also have a separate women’s hostel. The hostel is for both UG and PG students. Other facilities Karnataka University has a sports complex, it also has a physical education department. This department has classrooms, an office and other rooms as well. Additionally, the university also has a capacity for both indoor and outdoor games. Some of the indoor games include wrestling, table tennis among many others. The other facilities for outdoor sports are a basketball court, badminton court, swimming pool, volleyball court, table tennis, tennis court, Kabaddi, Kho Kho. The university has smart classrooms, and labs for different departments, including the Scientific and Instruments Centre. Moreover, the campus has facilities like the bank, post office, printing press and a guest house as well. The university also has various technologies which focus on experiential learning. There are seminar halls, auditoriums and other facilities for students to use during lectures, presentations and the like. The campus has a co-operative store as well which sells the basic amenities for the students including stationary. Additionally, the campus has a daycare and women’s facility centre, this cell is a safe space for women and it is especially convenient for the women who are working and have children. This easily helps them accommodate their children in the centre.

  11. Placements The Karnataka University has a very efficient placement cell which provides good opportunities to the students in terms of both jobs and summer internship programs. Moreover, the placement cell also organises many pre-placement talks, training to the students in preparation for the placement drive. Additionally, companies offer internships programs that last for about six to eight months with a stipend. The placement record of the students are also very high and is around 90% every year. The recruitment drive is held every year for the students providing stable job positions with high packages. Some of the top companies who participate in the placement drive almost every year are Infosys, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Cisco, Wipro Technologies. The average salary package is INR 2.5LPA. Fee Structure The Karnataka University fee structure depends on the course. The total fees for MBA are INR 1Lkahs. The total fees for MSc are INR 19,600. Additionally, the fees for MA, M.C.A, LLM the first year fees is INR 6,435, INR 41,415, INR 16,570 respectively. The first-year fees for the PhD course are INR 16,985. Moreover, the total fees for certification in any course is INR 4,640.
