ABOUTUNIVERSITY Kannada University is located in Hamp. The Government of Karnataka established the university in 1991. The university was founded through the Kannada University Act. The main aim of this university is the promotion of folklore, culture, traditions and literature of Karnataka. Kannada University offers courses in UG, PG, Diploma, Integrated and Doctoral levels. The University Grants Commission has also approved the university. There are a majority of specializations under each course and the university is completely research-oriented as well. The AIU has recognized the university as well. The NAAC has accredited the university with B Grade. Additionally, the institution also has three wings, publication wing, academic, and administrative. They are called Parasang, Adhyayan, and Adulating respectively.
INFRASTRUCTURE Library Kannada University has an extensive library that has a large collection of books and other references. Moreover, there more than 1400 limited edition books, e-books, journals both in English and Kannada. Moreover, the library has also subscriptions to multiple newspapers and magazines. The university library also has textbooks and other bound volumes which is very helpful for the students to refer to while doing research. Moreover, they can use digital databases to access e-books and e-journals for their convenience. Hostel Kannada University also has accommodation facilities for both boys and girls. There are separate buildings, additionally, the girl's hostel can accommodate 200 students, whereas, the boys’ hostel can accommodate 500 students. Other facilities Some of the other facilities available on the campus are the gym center, sports complex etc. The sports complex has facilities for various sports, including Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Chess and Carrom. The university also organizes many sports events which include inter-college sports events. Additionally, the university has a gym center for both boys and girls. The gym has all the facilities and equipment for the students. Other than that, the campus has a banking facility along with postal services as well. The students can access these during the working hours on the campus itself which is very convenient. Placements Kannada University has a placement cell which is very efficient. It helps the students in many ways. The placement cell provides career counselling to students who are still exploring their options or who wants to pursue higher education. Moreover, the placement cell also holds many talks, lectures and other training to help them acquire stable jobs in the recruitment drive. The university also claims 100% placement for a majority of the students. Some of the companies participate in the placement drive every year and offer some of the best job positions to the students with very high salary packages. Fee Structure The fees for the courses in distance mode is INR 2500, along with fees for admission and study materials, which is INR 3,000 and INR 2,000.
COURSES OFFERED Kannada University offers courses on many levels. The university offers a Diploma in Music, Sculpture. Additionally, they also offer Integrated courses in Folklore and Kannada Literature. Some of the most popular courses include Bachelors: The university offers B.A with specializations in Music or Sangeetha. This course is for a duration of three years. The candidates should have a diploma in music or any other equivalent degree to apply for this course. The admission criteria for this course is based on merit. Kannada University also offers Bachelors of Fine Arts and the candidates applying for this course should have a diploma in Sculpture. The selection criteria for this course is also based on merit. Moreover, the university also offers BVA in Sculpture and Painting.
Masters: Kannada University offers integrated courses with includes both MA and PhD. Some of the specializations for this degree are Folklore and Kannada Literature. This course is for a duration of four years and the candidate applying for this course should have an aggregate of 55% in their graduate degree. PhD: Most of the doctoral courses are for a duration of three years. Some of the specializations under this course are History, Folklore Studies. Visual Arts, Music and Dance, Sculpture and Paintings, Women Studies, Musicology, Translation Studies, Dravidian Studies, Kannada Literature Studies to name a few. For a majority of the courses, the university shortlists the candidates based on their previous marks sheet, the candidates will have to pay the application fee and submit the application form along with the other required documents in the university office. The university will then release the names of the candidates shortlisted. For some courses, the selection criteria are based on merit, as for PhD courses, the scores on the entrance exam and the other previous qualifying exams is taken into consideration.
