SHRI LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI RASHTRIYA SANSKRITVIDYAPEETHA Sanskrit Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Sammelan established Sanskrit Vidyapeethain Delhi on Vijaya Dashmi Auspicious Day, October 8, 1962, and appointedDr. Mandan Mishra as Special Service Officer and Vidyapeetha’s supervisor. 5. HISTORY Following Shastriji`s death, Smt. Indira Gandhi assumed the presidency of the Vidyapeetha and declared on October 2, 1966, that the Vidyapeetha would henceforth be known as the Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha. On April 1, 1967, the Vidyapeetha was taken over by the Government ofIndia, and on December 21, 1970, it became a part of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, a recognised independent Society, and was renamed Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Kendriya SanskritVidyapeetha. Furthermore, based on its performance and overall achievements, the Government of India suggested in March 1983 that this Vidyapeetha, together with the Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati, be awarded the status of Deemed to be University. Following the completion of the necessary inspections and other requirements, the Government of India designated the Vidyapeetha as a Deemed to be University in November1987. Over the past 38 years, Vidyapeetha, as one of the leading institutions dedicated to the cause of Sanskrit literature and language, has attracted the attention of leading figures, politicians, parliamentarians, and members of the legislature, industry, and the public.
