5. HISTORY The institute’s history goes far back to 1906 when Hakeem Abdul Majeed visioned the formation of the institute. However, it was Hakeem Abdul Hameed son of Hakeem Abdul Majeed whorealized the vision. Firstly Hakeem Abdul Hameed set up the wakf to start institutions one by one. After setting up the wakf he started the institute of history and medicine in 1962 and in 1972 he set up with his associates the Hamdard College of Pharmacy. Since then the institutes evolved and developed. It was only in 1989 the institute was inaugurated by Late. Shri Rajiv Gandhi. Soon the institute became a deemed university.
