KVPY - Introduction

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a national program of fellowship in Basic Sciences, conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, to identify, encourage and assist talented and motivated students who are studying Basic Sciences to pursue career in research. In this presentation we'll discuss the KVPY 2018 exam eligibility, selection process, exam pattern and fellowship.

KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process ❑ The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a national program of fellowship in Basic Sciences initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Started in 1999, the program is executed by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. ❑ The aim of this program is to identify, encourage and assist talented and motivated students who are studying Basic Sciences to pursue career in research. ❑ Selection of a student for the KVPY Fellowship program is based on his / her performance in the Aptitude test and interview. ❑ KVPY is one of the most prestigious examinations in India. 1 Copyright © 2018 Cereblence Technologies Pvt. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process The students who can apply for the Fellowship are categorized in three streams: Stream SA Students enrolled in Class 11th (Science subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) during the academic year 2018-19 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in ‘Mathematics’ and ‘Science’ subjects in the Class 10th Board examination. The fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated from 01 August 2020 only if they join an undergraduate course (B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int. M.Sc. / Int. M.S.) in Basic Sciences in the academic year 2020-21 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the Class 12th Board examination. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process Stream SX Students enrolled in Class 12th (Science subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) during the academic year 2018-19 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in ‘Mathematics’ and ‘Science’ subjects in the Class 10th Board examination. M.Sc. / Int. M.S.) in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2018-19 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) in the Class 12th Board examination. The fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated from 01 August 2019 only if in the 1st year final examination of B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Math. / B.Stat. / Int. M.Sc. / Int. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process For all the three streams (SA, SX and SB), the students must enrol in an undergraduate course (B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int. M.Sc. / Int. M.S.) in the following Basic Science subjects: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Materials Science and Environmental Science to be eligible for KVPY fellowship. 5 Copyright © 2018 Cereblence Technologies Pvt. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process ❑ Student registration and online application process for KVPY 2018 is now closed. ❑ The online computer-based aptitude test is conducted both in Hindi and English at centers in more than 90 cities across the country. ❑ Based on your performance in the aptitude test, you may be short-listed and asked to appear for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. ❑ For preparing the merit list for the fellowship both aptitude test and interview marks are considered (75% of the marks in the aptitude test + 25% of the marks in the interview). 7 Copyright © 2018 Cereblence Technologies Pvt. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process KVPY 2018 Aptitude test is an online computer based test and will be conducted using an easy-to-use portal on a computer. Duration: 180 minutes | Question Type: Multiple choice questions with 4 options for each question and only one correct answer | Exam language: Hindi and English The exam tests four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.   11. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process All the questions in the four sections / subjects of PART A and PART B are compulsory. In the application form, if you choose Stream SA (Class 11th), you have to answer the questions on all four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The aptitude test will have a mandatory ‘Biology’ section, both in PART A and PART B. Total number of questions: 80 | Total Marks: 100 Stream SX and SB For Class 12th (Stream SX) and 1st year UG program students (Stream SB), the aptitude test is identical. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process Number of Questions Chemistry 20 10 Physics 20 10 Mathematics 20 10 Biology 20 10 PART A PART B Candidates may answer any THREE sections / subjects in PART A and any TWO sections / subjects in PART B. In case candidate attempts more sections, best of three in PART A and best of two in PART B will be considered.   13. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process There is no officially prescribed syllabus for the aptitude test. The questions are based on Class 10th, 11th and 12th CBSE syllabus. The NCERT books must be followed for studying for KVPY. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process Monthly Fellowship Rs. 5,000 Annual Contingency Grant Rs. 20,000 Basic Sciences SA / SX / SB - during 1st to 3rd years of B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Integrated M.Sc. / M.S. Rs. 7,000 Rs. 28,000 SA / SX / SB - during M. Sc. / 4th to 5th years of Integrated M.Sc. / M.S. / M.Math. / M.Stat. The fellowship for the students selected under the stream SA and SX will be started after Class 12th and for students selected under the stream SB after 1st year of their UG course provided the students in all the above three streams pursue an undergraduate course (B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int.   15. KVPY 2018 Introduction Fellowship Eligibility Exam Pattern Selection Process The student is eligible to receive the KVPY fellowship up to Pre-Ph.D. level or 5 years whichever is earlier. The participation and satisfactory performance in the Summer Project every year is a prerequisite condition for renewal of KVPY Fellowship. The KVPY fellows enrolled in Class 12th and 1st year of the UG program are invited to the National Science (Vijyoshi) Camp and their travel expenses and local hospitality will be met by KVPY. KVPY Fellows can apply for direct admission to the four-year Bachelor of Science (Research) Program at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and to the five-year BS-MS Degree Program at one of the seven Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER). 14 Copyright © 2018 Cereblence Technologies Pvt.
