  1. DDoS Attack Mitigation Service with Zero Time to Mitigation to Protect you Without Knowing that you Were Attacked

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) is carried out with the networks of internet-connected machines that consist of computers and other devices, such as IoT devices which are infected with malware and hence can be controlled remotely by an attacker. These individual devices are known as bots, and a group of interconnected bots is called a botnet. DDoS mitigation software can successfully protect a targeted server or network from a DDoS attack by using cloud-based protection service.

DDoS attacks can be mitigated by the following methods: • Sinkholing: The malicious traffic is directed away from its target, usually using a list of known malicious IP addresses to identify DDoS traffic. However, this method is ineffective against IP spoofing, wherein the threat actor hides the true source of the IP packets in order to hide the identity of the sender, or impersonate another computer system, or both. • Null routing: Also known as blackholing, all traffic is directed to a non-existent IP address by the DDoS mitigation software. However, this method can cause a high ratio of false positives.

  4. IP masking: This method prevents direct-to-IP DDoS attacks by hiding the IP of the origin server. • Scrubbing: This method of DDoS attack mitigation is an improvement on the arbitrary sinkholing. The DDoS scrubbing service routes all ingress traffic through a security service. Malicious network packets are identified based on the header content.

  5. Always-on DDoSmonitoring This is done by detecting an attack early with always-on DDoS monitoring by Akamai’s Security Operations Command Center (SOCC). The customer is alerted using an established runbook and traffic is managed with always-on facilitated routing by the DDoS mitigation software. Traffic is analyzed and vectors are identified to apply the mitigation.
