  1. Kane Williamson’s captaincy record Kane Williamson has led the New Zealand national team for quite some time now and was recently appointed the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL as well. Kane Williamson has captained New Zealand in 78 ODI matches, winning 42 and losing 33 of those. As a captain, he has an average of 49.23 in ODI cricket. In T20I cricket, which is the weakest suit of Kane Williamson, he has led New Zealand in 49 matches, winning 23 and losing 25. As captain, he has scored 1383 runs at an average of 31.43. Williamson is made for test cricket and has a brilliant record as the test captain of the New Zealand side. From the 35 matches that he has captained, the team has won 21 and lost just 8. Williamson has scored 3078 runs in test cricket as captain at a brilliant average of 62.82. When David Warner was handed a one-year ban in 2018, Sunrisers Hyderabad saw the leadership potential in Kane Williamson and although he was not an integral part of the franchise, Hyderabad decided to appoint him the captain. Williamson had played just 7 matches in IPL 2017, the year before he was appointed captain, and made 256 runs at an average of 42.66 and a strike rate 151.47, but the captaincy sat well with him. Williamson went on to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad to the top of the points table at the end of the league stage in IPL 2018 with the team winning 9 and losing 5 of their 14 matches. Hyderabad ultimately lost to Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets in the final.

Given his brilliant record both in international cricket and in the one year that he got a chance in the IPL, Williamson was appointed the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad midway in IPL 2021 after the team managed to win just one of their first 6 matches under David Warner. As a batsman, Williamson has an impressive record in the IPL with 1747 runs from 57 matches at an average of 41.59 and a strike rate of 134.17 with 16 half centuries and the best of 89. It would have been interesting to see how the balance of Sunrisers Hyderabad panned out and whether the captaincy of Williamson brought any changes to the fortunes of Hyderabad, but unfortunately the IPL had to be suspended.
