  1. A Guide to Carpet Cleaning Methods Types of Carpet Cleaning Systems Many factors go into deciding which carpet cleaning company to hire. By understanding the different types of carpet-cleaning systems and their uses, you can choose the right company and avoid bad experiences. Shampoo Shampoo is used in carpet cleaning to remove dirt and grime. It is rarely used alone, but is often combined with hot water extraction in order to minimize residue. In some cases, it may be used on oriental rugs. Bonnet Cleaning Bonnet cleaning is a form of carpet cleaning that does not use water or chemicals. It is considered to be a maintenance-level cleaning method that should only be used when a carpet has become soiled, not as a way to clean a carpet before it becomes dirty. A leading franchise uses a form of bonnet cleaning and calls it dry-cleaning. Dry Cleaning Dry cleaning is a type of carpet cleaning in which the carpets are cleaned with some level of moisture or solvent. Although it is possible to get a nice job if performed by a

  2. well-trained technician, there is no comparison to thorough hot water extraction. Many commercial facilities used this low moisture method as an interim cleaning process to maintain carpet appearances, but periodic deep hot water extraction is needed to flush out accumulating soil and cleaning solutions from the unseen base of the carpet. Types of Carpet Dry Cleaning Chem-Dry– Chem-dry is a type of carpet cleaning, which is described above. Dry-Foam– The carpet is vacuumed and then the pile is brushed with thick foam that picks up dirt well. Encapsulation or Absorbent Compound Cleaning – To clean a carpet, an absorbent compound is applied to the carpet and worked through the pile. The compound dissolves soil and absorbs it. This method of cleaning lacks the ability to reach the base of the carpet or rinse, flush and recover embedded soil, liquid contaminants and 100% of the compound. Encapsulation cleaning is a method of carpet cleaning that uses encapsulating cleaners to clean up stains and dirt. The crystals in these cleaners act like sponges, absorbing dirt and holding it until you vacuum them away. Encapsulation cleaning is recommended for interim cleaning between deep cleanings with hot water extraction. Steam Cleaning and Hot Water Extraction Hot water extraction and steam cleaning are two different cleaning processes. Make sure you know which method your carpet cleaner is using. Hot water extraction is preferred because it cleans more deeply, extracting more dirt from deep within the fibers. Steam Cleaning Steam cleaning uses actual steam to clean carpets and upholstery. This method may kill germs and reduce allergens, but it is not the best way to remove soil and stains since there's no rinsing of the fibers. Hot Water Extraction Steam cleaning and hot water extraction cleaning are both popular options for cleaning carpets. They have many similarities, but the main difference is that hot water extraction requires water just hot enough to clean effectively and deeply.

  3. It's generally recommended that carpet manufacturers use hot water extraction for cleaning carpets. This process is gentler on natural fibers and will remove stains better than steam cleaning. Extraction cleaning involves a water-based solution that is flushed through the carpet pile, extracted by a self-contained vacuum, and then dried to remove dirt and stains. Portable Hot Water Extraction – Portable hot-water extraction units generally have lower water pressure than truck-mounted units, so they require more extensive preparation and finishing. They also cannot produce enough heat to maximize soil removal. Truck Mounted Hot Water Extraction – Truck mounts are powerful units mounted in a truck or van. They are powered by the truck's engine and much more powerful than portable electric machines. The heated cleaning solution is injected into the fibers, and then gets extracted back out and into the recovery tank on the truck.
