  1. The Essential Do’s and Don’ts to Keep in Mind When Using Ölfarben Ever popular and beautiful, Ölfarben is an art medium that never loses its allure. Allowing artists to be freely creative and versatile, Ölfarben can be used to render truly enchanting art pieces if one knows their way around them. It’s important to have a strong grasp on the practices and techniques of oil painting if you want good results. Here are some notable do’s and don’ts that one should follow when using Ölfarben so that you are able to leverage the full potential of this excellent painting medium: Do’s It’s worth investing in a quality easel for your oil paintings, especially if you like to paint for several hours at a stretch. Using an easel will not only make the experience more comfortable for you, but it will also keep the painting safe when you’re not working on it. Learn the right order of applying Ölfarben. As a thumb rule, you should use less oil content and thinner paint in the initial layers, and as you move forward to progressive upper layers you should be using more oil content and thicker paint. Be mindful of the pressure that you apply with your brush while painting as this can be fundamental in deciding whether your brush strokes look beautiful or messy. Think about the effect you want to achieve, and accordingly go heavy, light, or medium with the pressure. Be thorough at the time of cleaning your paintbrushes when you’re done for the day. Of course, you should roughly clean out your brushes in between changing colors. But when you are finally ready to wrap up your work for the day, spend some extra time cleaning out any remnants of the paints from the brushes. Don’ts Don’t leave your oil painting to dry out in a place where it could be spoiled or damaged in any way. Because oil paintings take quite some time to dry out, you have to be extra careful in taking care of them through the drying time. Don’t allow your oil paintings to dry out in a dark space. This may cause a film of oil to form at the top of the painting and ruin its appearance. Find a space that gets a lot of sunlight and allow your paintings to dry out here. Mixing two colors is an interesting process, but you don’t want to go overboard with this mixing. Whatever little inconsistencies there are in the color mixture, they will only provide extra charm to your art piece, which is why you don’t want to over-mix and lose this special additional value. Don’t restrict yourself to one oil painting technique only. There’s lot to explore when it comes to Ölfarben. Take advantage of that and experiment with an open mind. Whether it’s wet-on-wet painting or dry brush painting, keep all options on table. Source: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/essential-dos-donts-keep-mind-when-using-%C3%B6lfarben-stelling-art/
