  1. What Is the CompTIA Linux+ Credential? Linux+ is a vendor‑neutral certification designed to validate the ability to deploy, operate, secure, and troubleshoot Linux systems across major distributions. It emphasizes hands‑on, performance‑based testing to verify real-world skills for entry to intermediate system support roles. Who Should Pursue It? This certification is ideal for IT professionals such as system administrators, junior engineers, DevOps support staff, or cybersecurity personnel who manage Linux environments. It’s especially useful if you work across multiple Linux distributions and need portability of skills. Recommended Experience The creator recommends approximately 12 months of hands-on Linux administration experience. Prior certifications or exposure to system administration and IT fundamentals are helpful but not strictly required. Exam Versions & Retirement Schedule The current version is XK0‑005 (V7). It will remain available in English through January 13, 2026, with phased retirements in other languages such as Japanese and Spanish by April 2026. A new updated version (V8) will launch on July 15, 2025, and eventually replace the current exam.
