  1. Walking with Crutches Using crutches Walking after surgery should begin as soon as possible. For the first few weeks, however, you will need assistance in walking. When you need a little balance and stability help following leg surgery or injury, crutches may be the way to go. Even a little weakness or pain can be relieved with crutches.

  2. Medical crutches wholesale manufacturer produces them heavily as they are highly in use and medical products supplier hebei supplies them in all corners. Consult a physician. You may be suffering from a lot of pain, weakness, or problems with balance. You may find walking more convenient than using crutches. Crutch Basics Using crutches while you are moving around: •Don't let your armpits carry your weight, let your hands. •Always look forward before walking, not at your feet. •Use a chair with armrests to make sitting and standing easier. •Set your crutches so they are the right height for you. You should have your top at least 1 to 1 1/2 inches (2.5 to 4 centimeters) below your armpit. You should have the handles at hip level. •Your elbows should be slightly bent when you hold the handles. •Avoid tripping with your crutches by keeping the tips about 3 inches (7.5 centimeters) away from your feet. If you are not using your crutches, turn them upside down so that they won't fall over. Walking and Turning Walking with crutches requires you to walk with your crutches in front of your weak leg. 1.Place your crutches approximately one foot (30 centimeters) in front of you, slightly wider apart than your body. 2.You can move your body forward while leaning on your crutches. Support yourself with the crutches. You shouldn't step forward on your weak leg. 3.Finish the step by swinging your strong leg forward. 4.Repeat steps 1 through 3 to move forward. 5.Make sure your weak leg is not used as a pivot. Slowly move forward. The first few times may be uncomfortable. Depending on how weak your leg is, you may need to put more weight on it. Options include: •Non weight-bearing. This means keep your weak leg off the ground when you walk. •Touch-down weight-bearing. You may touch the ground with your toes to help with balance. Do not bear weight on your weak leg.

  3. •Partial weight-bearing. Your provider will tell you how much weight you can put on the leg. •Weight-bearing as tolerated. You may put more than half of your body weight on your weak leg as long as it is not painful. Sitting and Standing To sit down: •You should stand up and reach the back of a chair, bed, or toilet seat. •Balance on your strong leg and move your weak leg forward. •Hold both crutches in your hand on the same side as your weak leg. •Take hold of the armrest, chair seat, bed, or toilet with your free hand. •Slowly sit down. To stand up: •You should move your weak leg forward and sit at the front of the seat. •Put your hands on both crutches on the same side as your weak leg. •Stand up by using your free hand to push yourself out of your seat. •Place a crutch in each hand while you balance on your strong leg. Stairs When not in use, avoid stairs. You can sit down and scoot up and down, one step at a time, before you can go up and down on your feet. Follow these steps if you want to climb stairs on your feet. Initially, practice them with someone who can help you. To go up stairs: 1.Step up with your strong leg first. 2.Bring the crutches up, one in each arm. 3.Then lift the weak leg up with the help of the strong leg. To go down stairs: 1.Put your crutches on the step below first, one in each arm. 2.Move your weak leg forward and down. Follow with your strong leg. 3.On the other side of the handrail, you can hold the crutches with one hand while holding the handrail. This may be uncomfortable. Take your time and feel comfortable. Safety Tips You can prevent falls by making changes around your house. •A secure rug, rug corner, or cord should be fixed to the ground to prevent tripping or getting tangled.

  4. •Clear your floors of clutter and make sure they are dry. •Put on rubber or nonskid soled footwear. Don't wear heels or shoes with leather soles. Replace your crutches if they are worn out if you check the tips daily. A local medical supply store or pharmacy can provide replacement tips. To keep your phone or other items with you (such as a backpack or fanny pack), you should use such a bag. This way, you will be able to walk with your hands- free.
