  2. BACKGROUND Installing a rooftop window on a camper van makes van living easier by letting in lots of light and improving air circulation. Although a roof window brings convenience, it can cause trouble if you have neglected it, allowing water in and spoiling your adventures.

  3. PROJECT GOALS • Examine your camper van roof window at least once every three months or before you go on a long journey. Look for: • Direct sunlight and temperature shifts can weaken the bond of WEICON technical glass adhesive. • Dirt in the weep holes at the bottom of the window can result in water accumulation. • For rough roads, you should check the car’s frame for any dents or cracks.

  4. DISCUSSION Collecting dirt and waste around a roof window for the van's seal may weaken it, which makes cleaning it necessary every so often. Apply the surface cleaner to the window and wipe it and its frame with a soft cloth. Do not clean an acrylic skylight with a scrubber that could damage its surface. For dirt that isn't easy to clean, using a mild soap is usually effective.

  5. SUBJECT 1 When you work on a ribbed roof, check that the sealant fully covers any open spaces and is waterproof. Use a hose with low pressure to look for leaks after your construction materials have dried.

  6. ANALYSIS Both UV rays and severe weather conditions may weaken your roof window for van. You could apply a special coating or tinted film to your acrylic windows to protect them from UV rays. If you notice condensation between the panes of your double-glazed windows (U-value ~1.5 W/m2K), the seal has been broken.

  7. CONCLUSION A little time each season spent maintaining your camper van roof window helps it last longer and prevents leaks. Maintaining your roof window for the van adds beauty to your living space and also increases the value of your build. So, have your tools ready, look at the skylight carefully and set off with full confidence!
