There is a believe associated with the temple that Adi Shankara positioned the idol of Lord Shiva found in Alakananda River. Originally, the temple was built by the Pandavas in the time of Mahabharta. The existing one was re-built by Adi Shankara on finding the idol of Lord Shiva.   2. Agastyamuni Lying at a distance of about 40kms from Kedarnath temple, Agastyamuni is a temple dedicated to Rishi or Sage Agastya. This temple is considered to be one of his meditation points and stands as a perfect example of grandeur in terms of architecture. Its interiors with wall arts is a delight to the eyes. Gaurikund Gaurikund is a temple dedicated to Goddess Parvati (Also known as Gauri), wife of Lord Shiva, lying at a distance of about 10kms from Kedarnath. According to legends, Goddess Parvati practiced penance with much hardship for a very long time to win the heart of Lord Shiva. Initially, Goddess Parvati was born as Sati in the first birth, who got self-immersed in the Havan Kund organized by her father named Prajapati Daksh. After this, she was born as Parvati to Raja Himavan with Goddess Ganga as her sister. She was approached by Lord Shiva in the form of a sage to make her remember about their connection. From there on, Goddess Parvati practiced penance to win Lord Shiva as her husband. Gandhi Sarovar It is a beautiful small lake having crystal clear water and also known as Chaurabari Tal. The reason for such a name is that the lake is positioned adjacent to Chorabari Bamak Glacier, at the foot of Kedarnath and Kirti Stambh Peak. Sonaprayag Falling on the way to Kedarnath Dham, Sonaprayag is a place having tremendous religious importance. The literal meaning of Prayag is Confluence. Indeed, the place lies at a confluence of two Holy Rivers by the name of Mandakini and Basuki. Shankaracharya Samadhi Lying at a trekking distance of 16kms from Kedarnath towards its back, Shankaracharya Samadhi is extensively important. It is the Samadhi of Ad Shankaraharya, who developed Kedarnath as a Hindu Pilgrimage Centre. The sightseeing options around and close to Kedarnath Dham are such a wonderful experience by the devotees. To visit them all, one can hire private taxis or take local transport to access it without much difficulty.
