The Thermocouple Calibration Services Singapore

We deliver accurate and consistent calibrations at any of our laboratories or at our clientu2019s locations. We operate out of laboratory environment conditions. Between our full-service calibration laboratories and onsite work at client facilities, we complete electrical & electronic, temperature, mechanical and dimensional calibrations a year, on an average 1200 (only onsite)

  1. Thermocouple calibration Services Singapore and Its Functioning What is a thermocouple? A thermocouple is a device used for measuring difference in temperatures. It works as a sensor and detects any change in the atmospheric temperatures by generating a particular voltage. It is an extremely important device as far as industrial utility is concerned. Temperature for many operations, is a variable than can cause changes in their results. Hence in Calibration Company Singapore this device is widely used in the power generation sector, oil and gas manufacturing sector, biotechnological facilities, cement, paper and pulp manufacturing companies. Thermocouple’s scope of functioning is not limited to industries and scientific operational facilities but in daily household appliances as well. They are used in cooking and heating devices such as stoves, microwaves, toasters and furnaces.

  2. Functioning of thermocouple devices A thermocouple device has two different metallic wires intertwined at one point, called the electrical junction. Different metals have different capacities of electricity conduction. When the thermocouple apparatus of the two wires are exposed to different temperatures, they cause thermoelectric effect to take place. This effect generates a certain voltage depending upon the temperature. Each voltage indicates a temperature, which the thermocouple device has been put into. This is how the change in temperatures is recorded. Different types of thermocouple devices Different metals can be used for creating thermocouple devices, therefore there exists different combinations of metals which comprise the different types of the device. There are majorly 8 types of thermocouple devices, each has different temperature limits, reliability factors, cost of productions and life span. Here is the list of the 8 varieties of thermocouples- 1.Type K- Wires used- Nickel-Chromium / Nickel-Alumel 2.Type J- Wire used- Iron/Constantan 3.Type T- Wire used- Copper/Constantan 4.Type E- Wire used- Nickel-Chromium/Constantan 5.Type N- Wire used- Nicrosil / Nisil 6.Type S- Wire used- Platinum Rhodium – 10% / Platinum 7.Type R- Wire used- Platinum Rhodium -13% / Platinum 8.Type B- Wire used- Platinum Rhodium – 30% / Platinum Rhodium – 6% Need to calibrate thermocouple devices Temperature is a vital variable for many manufacturing and industrial processes. Conducting processes in wrong temperatures can result in production of defective and substandard products. To assure perfection in such process industrialists use thermocouple devices. But what if the

  3. device itself is defective. Defective thermocouple devices can indicate wrong temperatures. If the wrong temperatures are not identified and are falsely assumed to be the correct temperature, then it can cause serious problem with the manufacturing process. Therefore, to avoid such problems it is important to check from time to time, that the thermocouples are functioning properly. How to calibrate thermocouple devices? Now that it has been established that how important proper functioning of thermocouple devices is, let us understand the process of its Calibration Services Singapore. For calibrating a thermocouple device, a graph has to be prepared to plot voltage on one axis and temperature on the other. First, take a thermos-bath with water in it and set its temperature to a certain degree, say 30 degrees. Use the thermocouple device in the bath and record the voltage generated by the thermos-electrical effect. Repeat this activity few more times, each time increase the temperature by a degree. Plot the graph and draw a slope fitting the data recorded. Then refer to the particular thermocouples’ reference table and compare the data. If there is a significant difference between the reference data and actual recordings then it implies that the device is not functioning as per requirement and needs to be amended on Calibration Laboratory Singapore.
