  1. U.S. Department of Labor Resumes Foreign Labor Application Processing After Government Shutdown The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has started processing applications for both temporary and permanent employment programs again through its Office of Foreign Labor Certification (OFLC) after a nearly month-long suspension due to a lack of federal funding. The department said that the Foreign Labor Application Gateway (FLAG) portal and the SeasonalJobs.dol.gov website are now working again after being down since the end of September because of the U.S. government shutdown. The outage affected important services for employers in many fields, such as technology, healthcare, and agriculture, who depend on foreign workers to fill seasonal and specialized jobs. Employers can once again submit new Labor Condition Applications (LCAs) for H-1B specialty occupation visas and other foreign worker programs, as well as keep an eye on the progress of submissions that are already in the system. The restart is a big deal for U.S. employers who are having trouble finding workers, especially in fields that rely heavily on foreign professionals. Businesses that needed to hire quickly because of visa processing cycles were worried about the temporary shutdown. The DOL stressed that the OFLC is working to clear the backlog of pending applications and get back to normal processing speeds in the next few days now that operations have resumed.
