  1. How can I minimize the risk of my account being compromised? Your email address and password must have been obtained without your permission in case you received a notification stating that your Telstra email account has been compromised. There could be several ways this could have occurred. For example, someone coerced you to reveal your personal information by sending emails to you and claiming to be from a company you have been associated with. Your personal information can also be at risk if you clicked or visit harmful web pages that install the malware on your computers. It’s important to understand why, and what you can do to prevent it from happening in the future. So your email account has been compromised, now what? Your account will be temporarily suspended to prevent someone else from using it in case of detection of any suspicious activity. This might be inconvenient for the users but we strictly adhere to our privacy policies to ensure that users do not have to compromise with their personal details. To assist you in reactivating the suspended account you will need to contact us and state ‘compromised email account’. After reactivation of your account, there are a few steps that need to be taken care of to prevent future problems of the account from being suspended again. 1. Keep a check on the filtering and forwarding rules of your email to ensure that these have not been changed without your best knowledge. 2. To ensure that there is no malware or virus present in your computer run a virus scan on your computer and make sure that you have an updated version of it. Invest in a security software program if you haven’t already to keep yourself safe online. 3. Keep updating your passwords for all your associated email accounts after regular intervals. To change your password: 1. Sign in to My Telstra using your Telstra ID. 2. Select a relevant account from blue bar at the top screen in case of multiple accounts. 3. On the top right of the screen click on Select the Profile Icon. 4. Select Manage Mailboxes from the left-hand menu. Select Manage next to the mailbox.

  2. 5. After you are done selecting the correct email address then move ahead to click Select the Manage Mailboxes link. 6. You will see a new screen. Click on Change Password, and then select Continue. 7. Follow the rest of the prompts and select Save. 8. Repeat for each of your accounts. How can I minimize the risk of my account being compromised again in the future? If your account is ever compromised again, you can take the following steps to make it easier to recover. 1. Create a strong password for your account (and don't tell anyone!): • Your password should be at least (8) characters long. • Refrain from using some very common information about you like- username, real name, your kid’s names, common words, or company names. It is very easy to target such things. • Never use easygoing passwords - e.g. "password1234" or "qwertyuiop". • Always have a different password from your previous one and every account should have a different password. • Include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols (such as ! #, *). • Go for uncommon words, rather than random characters, to remember passwords easier. 2. Your antivirus and operating should be updated with the latest version. The majority of antivirus programs have free software updates that enhance security and performance. We strongly recommend that you set your computer up so it receives these updates automatically because updates can make your computer more secure. 3. Refrain from replying to an email that asks for your credentials like passwords, personal information, or financial information. Telstra never asks for any personal information via email, so avoid replying to an email asking for any personal information (even if they claim to be from Telstra, BigPond, Microsoft, Windows, Hotmail, Outlook, etc...). 4. Do not download unsolicited software, apps, or plugins (including toolbars, browser extensions, etc.). 5. Before you sign up for any new or public computers be careful as unsecured wireless networks can be harmful. If your work requires you to often use public computers or unsecured wireless connections, consider

  3. changing your account to always use HTTPS via Webmail. • Visit https://telstra.com/cyber-safety for more information
