  1. What is Eid al-Adha and Why is it Important? Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail (AS) in obedience to Allah’s command. In honour of this profound act of devotion, Muslims around the world perform Qurbani—the ritual slaughter of an animal—to reflect on the values of sacrifice, obedience and compassion. This blessed occasion is not only a time for prayer and family, but also a moment to uplift the less fortunate through charitable giving. As we prepare for Eid al-Adha 2025, it’s important to understand the significance of this day and how you can fulfil your Qurbani obligation in the most impactful way. When is Eid al-Adha 2025? Eid al-Adha 2025 is expected to begin on the evening of Friday, 6 June, and continue into Tuesday, 10 June 2025, subject to the sighting of the moon. Eid al-Adha begins on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Due to the moon-dependent nature of the Islamic calendar, the exact date

  2. may differ slightly across countries. Muslims are encouraged to follow local moon sighting announcements and prepare in advance for their Qurbani donations. The Significance of Eid e Qurban in Islam The story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Ismail (AS) is one of the most profound examples of faith in Islamic tradition. When tested with the unimaginable, Ibrahim (AS) responded with trust in Allah, and Ismail (AS) responded with patience and belief. Allah honoured them both, replacing the son with a ram and establishing the ritual of Qurbani for future generations. Qurbani serves as a reminder of the values that lie at the heart of Islam: submission to Allah, gratitude for our blessings and care for the less fortunate. It purifies our wealth, softens our hearts and strengthens our connection with the Ummah. Qurbani is not just a duty—it is an act of worship that carries immense reward. It symbolises the believer’s willingness to give up what is precious for the sake of Allah. By offering Qurbani, we step into a legacy of sacrifice, humility and devotion. We also earn the reward of feeding the poor and bringing joy to their homes during this blessed season. Every sincere intention, every act of giving, every portion of meat that nourishes a hungry family is recorded with Allah. Who Should Perform Qurbani?

  3. Qurbani is wajib (obligatory) on every Muslim who: ● Is adult ● Is sane ● Possesses wealth above the Nisab threshold (roughly equivalent to 87.48g of gold or its cash equivalent) This obligation begins after the Eid prayer and must be completed before sunset on the third day of Eid. If performed before the Eid salah, it is not valid and must be repeated. How Should Qurbani Meat Be Distributed? Islamic tradition encourages the division of the meat into three equal portions: ● One third for your household ● One third for family or neighbours ● One third for those in need This practice reinforces the spirit of community and ensures the joy of Eid reaches every corner of society.
