  3. FOUR OPERATION: SUBTRACTION Vocabulary: MINUEND: The first number in a subtraction sum from which the other number (the subtrahend) is to be subtracted. It is the WHOLE/TOTAL. SUBTRAHEND: The second number in a subtraction sum. The number that is to be subtracted/taken out. It is a PART. DIFFERENCE: The result after subtracting one number from another. It is a PART. SUBTRACT/MINUS: To take away one number from another number. 150 - 22 = 128 150 - 22 = 128 150 - 22 = 128

  7. EXAMPLE: SUBTRACTION • 164 - 25 = - 25 = 135 1) Missing = difference Missing = minuend minuend – subtrahend = difference subtrahend + difference = minuend 164 – 25 = 135 135 + 25 = 164 164 - = 135 2) Missing = subtrahend minuend – difference = subtrahend 164 – 135 = 25
