  1. presents a lesson in Afiya Clyne 2020

  2. Today’s Lesson Points and Lines

  3. POINTS AND LINES Afiya Clyne 2020

  4. POINT and LINES: Part 1 PARALLEL POINT INTERSECTING VERTICAL CURVED HORIZONTAL DIAGONAL LINE OF SYMMETRY MIRROR LINE PERPENDICULAR Afiya Clyne 2020

  5. OBJECTIVES At the end of this lesson, students should be able to: • Define a point • Define a line • Identify types of lines

  6. THE POINT In math : • a point is an exact location or position. • It has no size; which means it has no length, no breadth, no height or depth. The symbol for a point is: Yep, it’s just a dot.

  7. THE POINT • Points usually have a name (often a letter like “A ” or “W”). It can be any letter. Remember to use a capital letter. A M Z

  8. THE POINT Points have zero dimensions. This means they have ( NO length, breadth or height) cube square line point 0 dimensional 1 dimensional 2 dimensional 3 dimensional

  9. PRESENTING THE LINE Introducing the LINE !

  10. THE LINE A Line Definition 1: A line is straight one-dimensional figure which has no thickness and extends in both directions without end. Definition 2: A path of points that has no beginning or end.

  11. FACTS ABOUT POINTS AND LINES Lines and points help us in many ways. Every thing that we write or draw are created with points and lines. Let’s take a good……

  13. LET’S INSPECT THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF LINES

  14. VERTICAL LINES Vertical line: Goes from Top to Bottom or Up and Down the page. • It looks like it is standing up. D | | |

  15. Vertical Lines in our world.

  16. HORIZONTAL • Horizontal line: Goes from Left to Right or Right to Left. • It goes across the page. • It is parallel to the ground. • It looks like it is sleeping.

  17. Horizontal Lines in our world.

  18. DIAGONAL LINES • Diagonal Line: - A straight slanted line that goes from one corner to another. • It looks like it is about to fall. D

  19. Diagonal Lines in our world.

  20. PERPENDICULAR • Perpendicular Lines: Formed when two straight lines meet and form a right angle (90)

  21. Perpendicular Lines in our world.

  22. PARALLEL LINES Parallel lines go in the same direction and are the same distance apart(equidistant). They will never meet.

  23. Parallel Lines in our world.

  24. INTERSECTING LINES Intersecting Lines cut or cross each other at exactly one point.

  25. Intersecting Lines in our world. @ Afiya Clyne 2017

  26. CURVED LINE Curved Line: A line that is not straight and may change its direction.

  27. Curved Lines in our world.

  28. Let’s Test You Write the name for each type of line shown.

  29. Let’s Test You- Answers Write the name for each type of line shown. Perpendicular Parallel Intersecting Vertical Horizontal Diagonal Diagonal Perpendicular Perpendicular Intersecting Curved

  30. ACTIVITIES • Mini Activity Book on Lines • Online Quiz • Scavenger Hunt • Test someone • Create Lines with Molding Clay or Pipe Cleaners • Drawing Lines • Use different types of Lines to create pictures
