  3. Consent Definition • Two or more persons are said to consent when they are agree upon same thing in same sense.

  4. Concept of Consent One should not sacrifice their health and rights for the good of all. ˚ To empower the individual to make a voluntary informed decision regarding participation . ˚

  6. Rules • Respect • Informed Consent Process • Respect for Privacy • Beneficence • Good research design • Competent investigators/researchers • Favorable risk-benefit analysis • Justice • Equitable selections of subjects

  7. Types of consent • Implied consent • Expressed/ Informed consent/ written consent • Blanket consent • Free consent

  8. Implied consent • Applicable in case of emergency

  9. Expressed/ Informed consent • It should be verbal or written • One should give complete knowledge about merits and demerits regarding consequence • Both oral or verbal informed consent are acceptable by law

  10. Blanket consent • Obtained without fully explaining about the proposed treatment. • It is common in our country. • Not valid at all

  11. Free consent • Not caused by • Coercion • Un due influence • Fraud • Mis representation • Drug induced

  12. Special Consents: For Blood Transfusion • Reactions • Exposure to various viruses or diseases • Jehovah's Witnesses definition.

  13. Special Consents: OBS • Vaginal delivery • Forceps or vacuum extractor • VBAC (Vaginal birth after caserean) • C-section

  14. Sterilization • Tubal Ligation • Hysterectomy • Vasectomy

  15. Who can consent? • Patient, if adult ,Sane and competent,Not Intoxicated • Guardian • Court Order • Surrogate (substitute) Decision Maker

  16. Foster care is a system in which a minor has been placed into a ward, group home, or private home of a state-certified caregiver, referred to as a "foster parent". The placement of the child is normally arranged through the government or a social service agency.
