  1. Nutrition in Animals

  2. The five Stages of nutrition • Ingestion- The process by which an organism takes in its food is ingestion • Digestion- The Process by which the body breaks down the food that is eaten into Soluble nutrients that can be absorbed easily is called digestion • Absorption- The process by which simple, soluble nutrients obtained after digestion are taken up by the body is called absorption

  3. The five Stages of nutrition • Assimilation- The process by which absorbed nutrients became part of the body is called assimilation • Egestion- The process by which materials that are not digested or absorbed are thrown out of the body is called egestion.

  4. Nutrition in Human beings • Most of the food that is in an insoluble from and can not absorbed directly by the body. It needs to be broken down into simple, soluble substances. This process takes place in the digestive System • Human digestive system is a long tube that begins at the mouth and at the anus. This long muscular tube is called the alimentary canal. The mouth , food pipe or oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, Large intestine, rectum and anus make up the digestive system. Apart from these organs Gland like the Salivary glands, liver and pancreas plays an important role in the process of digestion

  5. Nutrition in Ruminant Animals • They bring the partially digested food back into their mouth and chew it again. This food that is brought back into the mouth is called the Cud. This process of bringing the swallowed food back into the mouth to chew it again is called Chewing the cud or rumination. Such animals are called ruminants. Deer , Goat , Sheep etc

  6. Nutrition in The Amoeba • The amoeba is a single celled organism that does not have a regular shape. • The Amoeba lives in eater and feeds on plants, animals and other organisms that live in the water. It has feet like extensions that help it to sense food. These structure are called pseudopodia meaning of false feet. The pseudopodia surround the food particle and join together to form a small space called a food vacuole. The food vacuole contains digestive juice that help to digest the trapped food.
