Sci-fi • Flatliners (2017) American science fiction psychological horror drama film and was directed by Niels Arden Oplev and written by Ben Ripley. • It was released by Sony pictures in USA September 29.2017 • Under production companys = Columbia Pictures, Cross Creek pictures,Further Films • Main cast Nina Dobrev as marlo, Diego Luna as Ray,Ellen page as Courtney.
Narrative • At the beginning we get to see a women with a girl (probably her child ) in a car driving, • The lighting is quit green grey which makes the whole atmosphere more dark not really happy • The Mom is looking on her phone which than results that she doesent see that the cars had stopped which results into a car crash where the car falls into the water • We can assume than that the car crash has something important to do with what is happening later on as they used action codes to keep the audience interesting • Then there is a montage of lights which can connote maybe lights we see when we die as we see as well picture of grave yards • There also picture of a heart monitor which connotes probably hospital • In the backround we get to hear a non diegetic sound of people talking about what happened to them and what is new now which has to do with what is happping in the movei after
Target audience • More younger audience between 20-35 as this doesent seem like a movie for a child • Also maybe people who are interested in what happening after your dying as well people who work in the hospital industry as we see it has something to do with hospital • Middle class as we see a mom with the girl look quit middle class
Genre • As we see a car crash we already know it cannot be a comedy anymore as well it has to be • As we see lights and a montage of different picture it gives more sci- fi espically as they used blue,purple, red colors witch connotes sci-fi • The people in the backround are talking about what happened which make it really mystery
Characters • The women and the girl are introduced in the car but they get into a car crash which we could assume they die • We only he hear different voices in the backround from people which sounds like they are concerned. • There are not many characters introduced which makes it even more mystery as well that we only get to hear different voices which makes the audience interested what these people has to do with the movie
Key moments • Camera work • Long shot of the car crash • This shows the audience what is happening with car after the car crush • Which makes it more mystery as we don’t know if they really died etc. what happens after ? • Sound • It’s non diegetic sound where we hear people talking = mystery • Intense music backround goes with what the people are saying
Key moments Editing Montage of different color lights and pictures of a grave yards and inside of a hospital , Heart monitor This gives snip pits of what the movie might include as well it creates interest for the audience as they want to know why this location
Conclusion • Do I think it’s a successful opening scene ? • Yes I think it a successful opening scene because they have the perfect match between mystery and keeping the audience interest what will happened as well giving them already hints what the movie will be about or what it might be • To add on they put not only a scene with people as well they have a montage with just people talking witch keeps it interested as they have two different types of videos in it
