What is the distinction between a fastener and a fixing

We frequently get confused about the distinction between a plastic fastener and fixings. Hopefully, we can contribute to a better understanding. But unfortunately, both names are sometimes used interchangeably. A fixing is holding and keeping anything in place. A fastener is a device that holds and secures an item. A fastener is a fragment of hardware that holds two or more items together. Screws and bolts, generally threaded, form a non-permanent link, allowing the various components to be disassembled or removed if necessary.
