  1. Adderall has become a popular drug for athletes trying to gain an edge

  2. The pro-football lexicon has a new word, and it is about to be as unsettling as Bountygate. Adderall, an amphetamine that has been rumoured to have impacted the Seahawks and keeps popping up in league drug suspensions. Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner were suspended for four games after testing positive for Adderall, a banned substance. Although the players insist they have not used any illegal substances, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the growing nexus between Adderall (a drug prescribed to treat Attention Hyperactivity Disorder) and the NFL. In the last two years, at least ten players were linked to stimulant use. However, this number could be misleading. Because of a confidentiality clause in the NFL's contract with the union, the NFL does not disclose the substance involved in any violation. It has led to suspicions about players and their representatives claiming that someone buy Adderall and uses it in certain instances. There is less stigma attached to amphetamine with a medical purpose than other banned substances like anabolic steroids.

  3. One official from another sport said, "It's the excuse of choice because there isn't transparency in the NFL." It seems undisputed that Adderall use is increasing, not only in the NFL. Carlos Ruiz, a Phillies catcher, was suspended for 25 games after he used Adderall. TMZ reports that NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger was also connected to the drug. Lindsay Lohan, an actress, was also said to have been Adderall dependent. It is easy to see the potential attraction when Dr. Gary Wadler (past chairman of the World Anti?Doping Agency's Prohibited List Committee) begins listing the benefits of Adderall for athletes. In a telephone interview, Wadler, who is currently an associate professor of medicine in Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, stated that it "masks fatigue, pain, and increases arousal -- almost like being in The Zone." It increases alertness, aggression, concentration, and attention. It increases reaction time, especially when tired. It may improve hand-eye coordination. Some people believe it improves mental performance. Adderall users may experience an increase in speed, acceleration, strength, and power. It's no wonder that Wadler calls Adderall "one of the quintessential performance-enhancing drugs. There's no question it's a performance-enhancing drug." Almost every major sports league has banned Adderall, including the NCAA, MLB, and NFL. As with other sports, the NFL allows players who have a legitimate medical need to use Adderall without penalty after they have been granted a Therapeutic Usage Exemption. While the NFL does not disclose how many therapeutic exemptions have been granted, MLB granted 105 in 2011. Wadler was astonished by these numbers

  4. He said, "I am an internist, and I see many patients." "I can count on one hand the number of patients I have seen who have (ADHD) to the point that they require medicine." He said that ADHD is now "the most common diagnosis in our society." Chief of Primary Care at Pacific Medical Centers Dr. Brett Daniel says that there is a lot of debate about ADHD. Current estimates suggest that ADHD affects children between 5-10%, and 4 to 5 percent are treated. Adderall is an excellent option for people living with ADHD. Daniel stated that ADHD is a brain disorder. Adderall helps to align things in the right amounts so that people can concentrate. People are more focused and able to focus better. He said that Adderall could make a significant difference in the lives of people with ADHD by helping them function better. Recently, Adderall has been commonplace on college campuses. It is also known as the "brain drug." Students use it to study for exams and for similar reasons that athletes use it. Dr. Don Catlin is the founder and former director at UCLA Olympic Analytical Lab and is still a member of the International Olympic Committee's medical committee. He likens Adderall's effect to drinking 25-30 cups of coffee after getting Adderall online

  5. Catlin stated, "It is very potent." It can get you off the track faster, and it will jazz you up. It can make you faster and more efficient, which can lead to a habit. It is certainly not healthy. It can cause heart rhythm disturbances, heart rate fluctuations, and seizures if taken in excess. Daniel pointed out that Adderall works on the same transmitter as cocaine, so you feel more confident and exquisite. Catlin said that Adderall is not a long-lasting drug and that it was easy to catch players. The drug can be tested quickly. It's hard to imagine what they are thinking. Perhaps Dr Charles Yesalis at Penn State, a professor emeritus in Health Policy and Administration & Kinesiology, may have provided a glimpse into the solution. It's one of those deals. I even said it about steroids. He said that even a 1% difference in athletic performance, which we often can't measure in the laboratory, was a huge deal on an elite level. It's a game that is measured in inches. The complexity of the NFL's offences and defences is staggering. It's a complicated game

  6. Thanks
