  1. Metal Cutting Saws January, 2011

  2. SM-S7C SM-S7C7.25” Metal Cutting Saw • Portable, Powerful Practical: Cuts metal fast, with cool, burr- free finishes. • Powerful 13 amp motor with overload protection, compared to most competitors with only 10-11 amps, yet only weighs 14 lbs. • Laser sight guide for long straight cuts; Bevels to 45 degrees • Delivered Standard with 7.25” carbide tipped mild steel blade attached, extra carbon brushes, carrying case and protective glasses included. • Chip collection system catches most hot chips, with additional vented cover included for cutting wood, aluminum etc. (Exclusive to Steelmax) • Cuts mild steel to 5/16” thickness, like cutting plywood. Depth of cut of 2.25” – cuts channel, angles, pipe & solids. • Mild steel, Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Thin Steel blades available for specific materials, plus a new Wood Cutting Blade! • .

  3. SM-S9C SM-S9C9.25” Metal Cutting Saw • Cuts mild steel up to ½” thick and has a depth of cut of 3.25” for cutting pipe, channel, angles, car posts, sheet metal, etc. • The most powerful saw of this size in the market, competitively priced, with a 15 amp motor and 9” carbide tipped blade. • Cuts through steel like wood, delivering a precise, burr-free cut that is cool to the touch, in seconds. • Sold standard with 9.0” mild steel blade attached, carrying case, hearing and eye protection, and extra carbon brushes. • Heavy duty for industrial uses and widespread applications including: Fabrication, Construction, Fire & Rescue, Farming, etc. • Laser site guide for long straight cuts. Bevels to 45 degrees.

  4. SM-S14C SM-S14C14” Dry Cut Metal Cutting Saw • Utilizing a 14” carbide tipped blade, the Steelmax S14 cuts through metal faster, safer and cleaner than abrasive chop saws in a fraction of the time and cost. • Powered with a 15 amp motor and geared to turn at half the speed of a chop saw, the S14 dry cutter cuts like a cold saw, but at a fraction of the cost. • Equipped with a 14” carbide tipped mild steel blade attached, heavy duty industrial strength cast iron base, and two position locking vise; this saw is ready for immediate action! • Cuts solid mild steel up to 1”thickness; cut profiles: pipe, angles, channel with a depth of cut up to 4-3/4”. Cuts angles to 45 degrees using guide. • Safer, faster, cleaner and more precise than any abrasive saw. Saves time and money giving cool cuts that need little to no finishing, eliminating need for grinding or cool down time.

  5. Metal Cutting Saws Safe & Effective Operation • Always wear safety glasses and hearing protection! Our chip collection system will catch most chips, but some get away and are sharp and near 200 degrees when flying. These saws are also loud, (even when not cutting because of the hardened gears). Protect your eyes, ears and coworkers. • Make sure that no one is facing you when cutting; they will catch the most chips and any material that may get caught and possibly thrown at the end of a cut. • Always secure material to be cut!!!!Even thin material that is not tightly secured will wear down your carbides prematurely. Clamp it! • Always start the cut slowly and progress steadily through the cut; if making long cuts on plate or grid, a cool down time after a couple feet may be required depending on material thickness. The S7 is designed to only cut mild steel up to 5/16” thick; the S9 is designed to only cut mild steel up to ½” thick. Depth of cut relates to profiles not thickness. • Change your blade as necessary; a dull blade will not cut steel! Unlike cutting wood in which a blade may last for months or years, the C-6 Carbides on the SteelMax blades do become worn in cutting steel and the saw will not cut with a dull blade. Your blade will wear faster when cutting thicker, harder material. It’s impossible to warrant blade life, only experience will let you know how much material a blade will cut. It’s kind of like drilling holes in steel, i.e., how many holes will your drill bit get? One sure way to tell a blade is worn is a noticeable increase in sparking – things are heating up and you’re not lifting chips as with a sharp blade. • Regularly empty your chip collector; not only does the saw get heavier, but hot chips tend to heat up the motor. • Test your lasers to make sure they are set properly– they can be adjusted to line up with the marks on your base plate. Similarly, make sure your S14 backstop on the vise is square for square cuts. These saws only cut as straight as the user allows. • Buy extra bladeswhen you get your saw. Murphy’s Law states you are going to need a replacement most likely when it’s least convenient.

  6. Safe & Effective Operation • Don’t try to cut material free hand or without a vise– these blades are aggressive and will be pulled from your hand, definitely damaging your blade, possibly ruining your saw (the s14 is most commonly abused this way), and potentially harming yourself or someone nearby. • Don’t attempt to use Metal Cutting Blades on your abrasive Chop Saw.Steelmax metal cutting saws turn at a much slower rotation than a chop saw or a wood saw. Carbides will not stay attached to a blade when turning at a rotation at more than twice the speed for which they are designed to be used. • Don’t start your cut before the blade gets up to full Speed. • Don’t try to cut:anchor iron, armored plate, cast iron, various grades of titanium, etc., 2 inch thick material, 1 inch thick material (only s14 will do this!) Also, don’t cut hydraulic hose - - the teeth on the blades tend to shred the sheathing. Concrete, Masonry – please don’t. . . the motors do not like the dust. • Don’t expect to cut: thick Stainless Steel all day with one blade. You will go through blades faster cutting Stainless Steel – the question to ask is does this system still provide greater economy and efficiency?? • Don’t throw away your manual and those extra carbon brusheswe include with each of our power tools. If you work your saw, eventually those brushes will need to be replaced requiring a screwdriver. screwdriver. Most service calls are related to brush replacement and attempting cuts with dull blades. • Don’t try to cut with a long, over 50 ft., 16 gauge extension cord. These saws draw too many amps and work best with a 10 or 12 gauge cord at 25 feet. • Don’t use the overload protection as an indicator that you’re overworking the tool.
