    30. Additional Faculty and Adjunct Positions Seon Han’s Replacement Mechanical Engineering department has received following new faculty positions Cash Chair in Nuclear Engineering Dr. Ray Derosiers’ Replacement Whitacre Chair in Energy Storage Adjuncts positions as needed due to enrollment growth (five in 2010-2011)

    31. Undergraduate Laboratory Development Getting about 60 new computers (open lab, ME lounge and labs). Spending about $60,000 for three undergraduate laboratories (Mat lab, metallographic equipment, updating control lab). $20,000 came from the donation.

    32. Recent Space Renovation Dr. Jankowski’s Lab (ME 133BB, almost complete) ME 119 (Dr. Ma’s Nanomaterials Lab, complete) Next to Dr. Jankowski’s Lab (under renovation) ME 133A (adjacent to wind tunnel, under construction) ME 138 (Dr. Chaudhuri’s TEM lab)

    33. The Mechanical Engineering Department students (1,000) faculty (28) and instructors (6 full time) are increasing in number. The ME undergraduate program is well reputed as indicated by enrollment and competition among industry to recruit our students. According to ASEE data our department was ranked 23rd in producing BSME graduates in 2008 (total of 274 schools reported). Average SAT score in 2008, 1226. Average GRE score in 2008, 1169 (Math 725). Honors program in ME is working well. Enrollment management plan is working well. New undergraduate curriculum has more technical electives. Set up a minor in nuclear engineering at the college level. General Comments

    34. Number of students in 150 hr. BS/MS is currently 31. Research in the department is growing. The department strives to achieve excellence in graduate program and research. The department is working on a new strategic planning The department is working towards 2011-2012 ABET visit. Space is very limited for further growth General Comments

    35. The ME Department should continue to improve the excellent undergraduate program and prepare for the next ABET visit in 2011. Work towards increasing the FE exam passing rate Aggressively seek more external funding to support more graduate students on external funds. The department should work with the college towards recruiting more women and underrepresented group students. Encourage more students to assume co-op/internship. Come up with a new strategic planning. Get more laboratory/research space. Work with College Development office to raise funding. Implementation Plan (Strategies)– 2010-2011

    36. Long Term Implementation Plan- Strategies Get more new faculty, instructor, staff positions (asked for 10 new faculty positions in next five years). Maintain an excellent undergraduate program by improving it continuously. Aggressively seek external funding; must support more graduate students on research grants. Try to retain students from women and underrepresented groups Improve graduate program Get more space
