  1. What is a Root Canal? Tooth decay causes cavities in teeth, which spreads deep into the tooth, reaches the inner pulp, and can cause a rapid spread of infection as well as a great deal of pain. A root canal treatment is absolutely necessary in this situation. How Are Root Canals Performed? Root canal therapy, contrary to popular belief, is not painful. To completely eliminate pain, the infected tooth is first anaesthetized. The infected pulp is then exposed using a drill.

  2. To enter the root canals of the teeth and remove the infected pulp, a rotary machine or simple files are used. If there is swelling and severe infection, the root canals are filled for a few days with an antibiotic paste to help eliminate infection. Alternatively, antibiotics may be prescribed for a few days prior to the root canal procedure. The root canals are cleaned and shaped before being irrigated with an antiseptic solution, dried, and filled with a bio- friendly material. A post can be used to strengthen the roots and then the tooth is filled and covered with a crown, restoring its functionality.
