  1. Dark Circles: Causes The dark circle under the lower eyelid is common to both men and women. Often accompanied by a bag, the dark circles can make you look older than you. To make matters worse, getting rid of them can be difficult. They can affect anyone, but dark circles are genetically in that condition (periorbital hyperpigmentation) or non-white ethnic groups (dark skin tones become hyperpigmented around the eyes). Most common for older people (easy). Fatigue seems to be the most logical explanation for this condition, but several factors can contribute to the dark circles under the eyes. In most cases, they are not a cause of concern and do not require medical attention. Read below for more information. Causes of Dark Circles 1. Age: Natural aging is a common cause of these bears under the eyes. The skin becomes thinner with age. It also loses the fat and collagen needed to keep the skin elastic. When this happens, the dark blood vessels under the skin become more prominent and the area under the eyes becomes darker. 2. Eye Strain: Looking at the screen of a TV or computer can hurt your eyes. This exposure can cause the blood vessels around the eyes to enlarge. As a result, the skin around the eyes may darken. 3. Dehydration: Dehydration is a common cause of dark circles under the eyes. If the body does not get enough water, the skin under the eyes will appear dull and the eyes will sink. This is due to its proximity to the underlying bone. 4. Overexposure to the Sun: Excessive sunlight exposure can cause your body to produce excess melanin, the pigment that gives your skin color. Too much sun (especially for the eyes) can darken the pigmentation of the surrounding skin. 5. Genetics: Family history also affects the development of dark circles under the eyes. It can be a genetic trait found in early childhood and can worsen or slowly disappear with age.
