Counselling for trauma addresses the individual experiences that cause lasting psychological effects. Nearly everyone encounters trauma, whether from unexpected events, accidents, abuse, sudden loss, violence, war, or natural disasters. Trauma manifests in the body, storing both implicit and explicit memories. Through counselling, individuals can alleviate intrusive symptoms and suffering. My practice focuses on developmental trauma, helping clients of all ages to understand their stories and integrate their experiences into a resilient, healing narrative.

Trauma is in the experience of the individual> Many experiences can cause a person to suffer the effects of trauma. Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s an unexpected event or change, a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster. Trauma symptoms arefelt– meaning the body stores the implicit as well as explicit details. We can work to reduce the intrusions and symptoms that cause suffering. Developmental trauma, or trauma experienced in childhood is a particular interest of my practice. We can work together to heal these traumatic symptoms, work to understand ones story and regardless of age, integrate the parts of our experience the into a cohesive narrative, full of resiliency and healing. While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed. In these circumstances, the support, guidance, and assistance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma. 2/2
