  1. Benefits of BARF or RAW Diet Over Regular Pet Foods There is a lot of buzz about feeding BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) to pets. A common question is whether one should feed raw food to their pets or not? As these foods have many benefits, pet owners are gradually switching towards natural food stuff for dogs and cats. As both these species have been hunters, their original food was herbivores animals. It suits them more as their biological system is made for such kind of food only. In fact they can digest non vegetarian food more easily then grains or other veg stuff. Why we should give BARF to pets? It suits the biological conditioning of the pet It is a natural source of pet nutrition Maximizes the pet’s health and longevity Improves reproductive capacity Reduces the need of veterinary interventions Variety of raw food makes the pet enjoy his meal

  2. Although there are many benefits, one should keep in mind that their pet is habituated of kibbles or canned food. Switching to BARF would not be an easy task as initially they may not like the “unfamiliar” food. It should be a gradual process of introducing the food and converting it into a habit. Also, you should warm the RAW food but not cook it otherwise it may prove hazardous for the pet. So, go slow but steady while introducing new food to your pet. How to switch to BARF food? Ask a vet about the list of foods that suit your pet. Also, check with him which food would suit as per the current health condition of the pet. Choose the food which your pet likes naturally. If your pooch loves the taste of turkey then choosing raw turkey will increase the chances of the pet getting accustomed to the new food. Mix BARF food in increasing amounts with the regular food you are giving. When the pet starts taking it normally then, switch to a complete raw diet. When the pet gets used to the food, reduce the time of warming up the food. As raw food contains crushed bones, it will prove harmful if it is cooked up or heated up beyond a limit. Appreciate the pet when he takes the new food without showing any tantrums. Be patient with your pooch or kitty as they may take time to form a habit of their “original food”. Some pets may show gastrointestinal upset initially. Their body may not adapt to raw diet easily. Consult a vet in such cases. To sum up, there are many benefits of switching to BARF. It will take some effort and patience to get them used to a completely new form of diet. So, keep working over it. Give time as it would result in absolute health for your pet. The process is worth giving time. Isn’t it?
