What was the research requirement? A German automobile major wanted to gain insights about features potential car buyers look for in different passenger car segments. 2
What were the challenges? The design LOI was upward of 65 minutes, which is more than thrice the typical LOI encountered in online studies. Due to high LOI, participation and conversion rates were extremely low. Actual LOI in field was well over 80 minutes. 3
How did Borderless Access achieve results? Given the high design LOI, it was imperative to make it easier for potential respondents to complete the survey. This was achieved by the following approaches: During fieldwork Preparatory steps Advance intimation about LOI: Respondents were informed at the invitation stage that this would be a lengthy interview. Higher incentives: Incentives were apportioned at ~40% of interview costs. The actual incentive figure was communicated to respondents in the invitation itself (instead of points). Re-inviting dropouts: Our Sampling Management Team kept a close track on respondents who had dropped out and re-invited them with a custom message stating that they could resume the survey from where they stopped during the last sitting. Programming with reusable links: Our programming team created re-usable links to allow respondents to take the survey over multiple sittings. During each sitting, the respondent could resume the survey from the point where he/she paused during the previous sitting. 4
Outcome: • We achieved the required sample size within the set timeline. • The client was impressed with the data quality and services delivered. • They went on to commission 3 additional markets (Argentina, Colombia and Mexico) for the same study. © 2017 Borderless Access 5
