  1. Force and Pressure Science Presentation

  2. Introduction to Force • • Force is a push or pull on an object. • • It can cause an object to move, stop or change direction. • • Measured in Newtons (N).

  3. Types of Forces • • Contact Forces: Friction, Muscular force. • • Non-contact Forces: Gravitational, Magnetic, Electrostatic.

  4. Effects of Force • • Can change the speed of an object. • • Can change the direction of a moving object. • • Can change the shape of an object.

  5. Introduction to Pressure • • Pressure is the force applied per unit area. • • Formula: Pressure = Force / Area • • It is a scalar quantity.

  6. Units of Pressure • • SI unit: Pascal (Pa) • • 1 Pascal = 1 Newton/m² • • Other units: atm, bar, mmHg.

  7. Factors Affecting Pressure • • Magnitude of force applied. • • Area over which force is applied. • • Greater the area, lesser the pressure for same force.

  8. Pressure in Solids, Liquids, and Gases • • Solids: Pressure depends on contact area. • • Liquids: Pressure increases with depth. • • Gases: Exert pressure in all directions.

  9. Applications of Force and Pressure • • Syringes work on liquid pressure. • • Nails and pins apply force on small area to increase pressure. • • Hydraulic lifts use pressure in liquids.

  10. Summary • • Force is a push or pull, measured in Newtons. • • Pressure = Force / Area, measured in Pascals. • • Applications are seen in daily life tools and machines.
