  11. T From Civil Engineering to Healthcare Innovation he dental world has traditionally adopted conventional methodologies, with many clinics still running their operations in a similar way as they did many decades ago. In the past few years, however, the digital revolution has taken its toll on industries that had been resistant to it until then: it’s now taking hold of healthcare and, more specifically, dentistry, is experiencing this shift, thanks in large part to innovators like Sary Azakir, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Sary’s background in civil engineering, specializing in Project Management and Strategic Planning, might seem an unlikely foundation for a career in healthcare, but his expertise in managing complex operations became a cornerstone for his entrepreneurial journey. Before Co- founding Toothpick, he worked as a consultant, overseeing projects ranging from interior designs to large-scale landmark developments. His work required meticulous attention to detail, strategic thinking, and the ability to oversee complicated processes—skills that would later prove invaluable in his shift to healthcare. Toothpick . Sary’s journey to leading change in healthcare wasn’t a straightforward one. His background is rooted in civil engineering and project management, fields far removed from healthcare at first glance. His early career saw him managing large-scale construction projects, including everything from intricate interior fit-outs to ambitious master plans. As time went on, a pivotal moment occurred when Dr. Wael Bizri, a childhood friend and schoolmate of Sary, reached out with an innovative concept. Along with fellow dental students Dr. Mohamed Hammoud and Dr. Mohamad Saad, they shared their firsthand experiences with the challenges faced within the dental industry. Inspired by the opportunity and past experience in technology, the group envisioned and launched a project that would address these challenges and transform the dental ecosystem, Toothpick. As the youngest department head in his firm’s history, Sary had already established himself as a forward thinker, focused on solving problems and simplifying processes. When his friends—Dr. Wael Bizri, Dr. Mohamed Hammoud, and Dr. Mohamad Saad—shared the challenges they faced as dental students in sourcing products from distributors, the team identified a significant gap in the industry. Together, they envisioned a solution: a centralized marketplace to streamline procurement for dental clinics and distributors. Combining their diverse expertise—Sary’s strategic and operational skills, paired with the co-founders’ firsthand knowledge of dental practices—the team worked collaboratively to bring this vision to life. What began as a marketplace grew into Toothpick, a comprehensive ecosystem integrating technology and financial solutions to address critical industry pain points. What began as a shared vision among the team grew into a full-fledged venture operating in 5 countries with over 100 employees. Each member brought unique strengths to the table—Sary contributed his expertise in project management and corporate strategy, while the dentists provided their deep industry knowledge and understanding of the pain points. Together, they laid the foundation for Toothpick, a platform designed to connect dental clinics, suppliers, and patients seamlessly, marking the start of a collective journey to revolutionize the dental industry. The dental industry, like many healthcare sectors, was used to doing things the old-fashioned way. Ge?ng people to switch from tradi?onal methods to digital tools took ?me and pa?ence. Driven by a shared vision, today Toothpick has grown from an initial marketplace concept to a robust digital ecosystem. The platform goes far beyond just simplifying procurement. It now offers innovative financing solutions like Toothpay, which helps patients manage their dental care expenses with ease. With a technology-first approach, Toothpick has not only helped modernize the industry but has also empowered dental professionals with the tools they need to stay ahead in a world that’s rapidly evolving. Let’s explore how a shared vision is reshaping the future of dentistry with technology-driven solutions and innovation!

  12. “Our success lies in the power of teamwork,” the co- founders explain. “By leveraging our collective strengths, we’ve created a platform that’s transforming the dental industry while making care more accessible and efficient.” Toothpick introduced Toothpay alongside the development of its procurement system, recognizing that financial support was essential to fully address the challenges faced by clinics and patients. Toothpay provides flexible payment options with industry leading partners, such as Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) and micro-lending, to make dental care more accessible. For clinics, Toothpay Business offers SME loans, enabling them to purchase supplies from the platform without cash flow constraints. The Birth of Toothpick When Toothpick was first envisioned, it started as a simple marketplace designed to connect dental clinics with suppliers, offering an efficient way for clinics to manage their procurement needs. However, as the team delved deeper into the industry, they realized that the problems went beyond procurement. Dental clinics faced numerous challenges in managing their finances, from patients’ out- of-pocket expenses to cash flow issues for clinics. This understanding led to a shift in Toothpick’s approach. By integrating financial solutions with procurement, Toothpick created a holistic ecosystem that supports both patients and clinics. This approach has helped thousands in the UAE access affordable dental care while enabling clinics to streamline their operations effectively. “Offering a solution that helps patients afford their dental care is just as important as helping clinics streamline their operations,” Sary explains. “We want to make dental care accessible to everyone, and we believe that financial tools like Toothpay are a critical part of that mission.” “What we realized was that we weren’t just creating a marketplace for dental products,” says Sary. “We were building a platform that could address several critical pain points—supply chain management, financing, and payments—all in one ecosystem.” Overcoming Obstacles in a Traditional Sector The team developed a digital procurement system that allows clinics to easily browse products, place bulk orders, and track their inventory in real-time. This tool has proven invaluable for clinics looking to streamline their operations, reduce costs, and avoid overstocking. The digital platform allows dental clinics to maintain a steady supply of the products they need without the hassle of managing multiple suppliers or dealing with inefficiencies in the ordering process. Launching a digital platform in a traditionally conservative industry like healthcare comes with its challenges. Toothpick’s early years were marked by a significant learning curve as they worked to persuade dental professionals to adopt new technology. “The dental industry, like many healthcare sectors, was used to doing things the old-fashioned way,” says Sary. “Getting people to switch from traditional methods to digital tools took time and patience.” The team at Toothpick knew that simply offering a solution wasn’t enough; they needed to demonstrate its value. This led to a comprehensive strategy of engaging with dental clinics, training staff, and showcasing the real-world benefits of the platform. By participating in industry exhibitions, hosting workshops, and providing on-the- ground support, Toothpick gradually built trust and increased adoption among clinics. Educa?on and building rela?onships were key to overcoming these early challenges. We wanted to show the industry that technology could make their lives easier, not harder. “Education and building relationships were key to overcoming these early challenges,” he reflects. “We wanted to show the industry that technology could make their lives easier, not harder. Once we gained the trust of the clinics, the adoption rate grew.”

  13. This commitment to education and relationship-building played a significant role in the platform’s early success. Toothpick didn’t just provide a digital solution—it became a partner to dental clinics, guiding them through the process of digital transformation. The region’s openness to new ideas and technologies has been instrumental in the clinic’s ability to scale quickly. Additionally, the growing demand for tech solutions in healthcare has created a fertile ground for the clinic to introduce its innovative platform. “The healthcare industry in the UAE is ripe for digital transformation, and the demand for solutions like ours is only increasing,” he notes. A Region Ready for Change Tech-Driven Transformation The UAE, where Toothpick is headquartered, is known for its progressive approach to technology and innovation. The government’s support for the start-up ecosystem has made the country an ideal location for tech-driven companies. Sary attributes much of Toothpick’s success to the resources available in the region, including incubators, accelerators, and partnerships with leading tech companies. Sary is a firm believer in the power of technology to transform industries. At Toothpick, technology isn’t just an add-on—it’s the foundation of the entire platform. From the digital procurement system to the fintech solution that supports Toothpay, technology drives the company’s business model. But it doesn’t stop there. The clinic is constantly looking for ways to integrate cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning into its platform to provide even more value to users. “The UAE is a hotbed for innovation,” says Sary. “The government is incredibly supportive of entrepreneurs and offers a wealth of resources to help companies grow. Being based here has been a huge advantage for us.” Entrepreneurship isn’t easy, but if you’re passionate about your mission and stay focused, you can make a real difference. It’s important to have a vision, but equally important to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the market. 15. “We are just scratching the surface when it comes to AI,” says Sary. “We’ve already started developing AI-driven features that help dental clinics make smarter, data-driven decisions about their procurement and operations. The future of healthcare, especially in the dental industry, lies in technology, and we are at the forefront of that change.” This inclusive culture has helped Toothpick grow rapidly while maintaining a strong sense of unity. The company’s regular workshops, brainstorming sessions, and focus on feedback have created an environment where innovation thrives. Scaling and Expanding In addition to AI, Toothpick has built strategic partnerships with other fintech and healthtech companies to further enhance its platform. These partnerships have enabled the company to offer a wider range of solutions, helping clinics and patients achieve better outcomes. “Our ability to collaborate with other innovative companies is one of the reasons we continue to grow,” he says. Looking to the future, Sary envisions the clinic expanding its reach beyond the UAE and into other regions. “Our goal is to scale our platform, bring more dental clinics into our ecosystem, and continue to innovate based on market needs,” he says. Over the next 5-10 years, the company plans to evolve its product offerings, including expanding its fintech solutions and adding new features powered by artificial intelligence. A Collaborative Company Culture Sary strongly advocates in creating a collaborative environment where every team member has a voice. “We don’t have a rigid hierarchy,” he explains. “We believe in the power of collective brain. Every department, from management to customer service, contributes ideas and feedback. This collaborative approach is key to our innovation.” “We want to be the go-to platform for dental practices looking to modernize their operations and for patients seeking innovative payment solutions,” he says. “Our mission is to make the entire healthcare ecosystem more efficient, accessible, and affordable, providing clinics with the financial tools they need and offering patients flexible ways to manage their dental expenses.” Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs Sary’s leadership style is rooted in trust, respect, and empathy. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the needs of the team and supporting them in achieving their goals. “It’s not just about getting results—it’s about building a team that believes in the mission and works together to achieve it,” he says. For those looking to follow in his footsteps, Sary offers valuable advice: “Start with self-awareness. Know your strengths and weaknesses. Build a team that complements your skill set and always focus on solving real problems. Be open to feedback and keep learning.” “Entrepreneurship isn’t easy, but if you’re passionate about your mission and stay focused, you can make a real difference,” he adds. “It’s important to have a vision, but equally important to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the market.” We are just scratching the surface when it comes to AI. The future of healthcare, especially in the dental industry, lies in technology, and we are at the forefront of that change. As Toothpick continues to grow and evolve, Sary’s words remind us all of the power of persistence, adaptability, and a vision to create lasting change.

  16. Integrating Leadership Development into Medical Curricula March 2025 18 www.arabinsightscare.com

  17. A Critical Need ealthcare today demands more from doctors than H teams, stand up for patients, and spark new ideas, all while delivering top-notch care. But medical schools have long focused on the nuts and bolts: anatomy, drugs, diagnoses, and procedures. Leadership? That’s often left on the back burner. With challenges like aging patients, tight budgets, and fast-changing technology piling up, it’s clear we need to weave leadership training into medical education. just medical know-how. Physicians—and even dentists—must juggle complex systems, guide In this article, we will discuss why this integration urgent, what’s missing now, and how we can make it happen. Why Leadership Matters in Medicine Leadership isn’t about barking orders—it’s about teamwork, influence, and rolling with the punches. Doctors today don’t just treat patients; they manage groups, settle disputes, and make tough calls fast. A 2023 study in the Journal of Healthcare Leadership showed that doctors who lead well help patients heal better, keep teams happy, and cut down on burnout. On the flip side, weak leadership breeds confusion, mistakes, and worse—things that hit hard in lives and dollars. The pandemic threw this into sharp relief. Doctors weren’t just seeing patients; they were organizing supplies, shaping policies, and steadying rattled communities. Those with some leadership chops held up better, showing grit and smarts. Plenty, though, felt out of their depth—proof that what they learned in school didn’t match the real world. Leadership isn’t something you’re born with; it’s something you can teach. Where Medical Education Falls Short Medical school is a grind—dissecting bodies, memorizing drugs, mastering checkups. It’s vital stuff, but it leaves little space for things like talking well, understanding people, or leading a crew. A 2022 survey from the Association of American Medical Colleges found just 35% of U.S. medical schools offer real leadership training, and even then, it’s usually an optional add-on. The thinking seems to be that leadership just happens on its own. In the chaos of a hospital, that doesn’t cut it. 19 March 2025 www.arabinsightscare.com

  18. Worse, the way medical school works can squash leadership before it starts. It’s all about solo grades and climbing the ladder, not working together or taking charge. Students learn to stick to the playbook, not rewrite it. They come out great at fixing bodies but shaky at leading people. tricky calls, managing chaos, or speaking up for what’s right, giving real-time pointers. 4. Check Progress: Grade leadership like you grade stitching a wound. Ask peers, teachers, even patients how a student’s doing on teamwork or guts. It shows this stuff counts. Why This Shift Can’t Wait 5. Mix It Up: Team up with business or public health folks for workshops on haggling, planning, or big- picture thinking—skills medical school usually skips. Baking leadership into medical training isn’t a “nice-to- have”—it’s a must. For one, it gets doctors ready for today’s healthcare mess. Care isn’t just one doctor anymore; it’s a web of specialists and staff working together. A doctor who can steer that team keeps things humming for patients. Getting Past the Hurdles It also fights burnout, which is eating medicine alive. Knowing how to share the load, set priorities, and lift others up takes the weight off one person’s shoulders. A 2024 American Medical Association report said doctors with leadership skills were 20% less fried, thanks to feeling more in charge of their days. It’s not all smooth sailing. Time’s tight, teachers might push back, and money’s always an issue. But fold leadership into what’s already there—like ethics classes—and it’s less of a stretch. Train the trainers to handle it, and lean on hospitals or clinics to chip in with cash and real-life chances to practice. Looking Ahead Plus, leadership sparks change. Whether it’s tackling unfair health gaps or rolling out new tools, doctors need to push things forward. Without training, they’re stuck watching from the sidelines when we need them out front. Bringing leadership into medical training flips the script on what it means to be a doctor. It’s not just about healing—it’s about leading, in hospitals and beyond. Schools need to move fast, teaming up with groups like the Liaison Committee on Medical Education to lock this in as a must- do skill. How to Make It Work So how do you squeeze leadership into an already jammed medical school schedule? It’s about building it in smart, step by step. The proof’s in the pudding: leadership boosts care, teamwork, and how doctors feel. Healthcare’s changing, and training has to keep up. Teach leadership, and we set up tomorrow’s doctors to tackle anything with guts, skill, and heart. We can’t wait—because in medicine, leading well saves lives. 1. Weave It In: Don’t tack leadership on as extra homework—thread it through the whole program. Start with basics like self-awareness and talking skills in year one, using group projects or reflection. Later, let students practice calling shots or solving spats during hospital rounds. - Pearl Shaw 2. Learn by Doing: You don’t learn to lead from a textbook. Set up fake emergencies or team drills where students take the reins. Share stories of doctors who’ve led well to light a fire and show how it’s done. 3. Find Mentors: Hook students up with pros who live leadership every day. These guides can walk them 0 20 www.arabinsightscare.com Mrabiare.com March 2025

  26. The Future of Dentistry How Dental Technology Advancements Are Changing the Game odern dental practice has undergone substantial M and result quality and create new dental patient experiences. Modern dental technology innovations have brought advancements that produce highly precise and efficient and comfortable dental treatment for the future. Dental technology integration represents more than a temporary change because it brings revolutionary improvements to oral healthcare systems which will benefit future dental generations. change because of rapid dental technology advancements that improve patient care delivery The Evolution of Dental Diagnostics The development of Dental Technology Advancements has expanded their biggest impact to diagnostic capabilities. Before modern dental technology dentists used manual assessments coupled with standard two-dimensional X-ray imaging for oral health examination. These techniques provided sufficient results though they failed to detect early- stage conditions while providing insufficient data about the complete mouth condition. The current dental sector has been boosted by 3D imaging together with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). These detecting devices present to dentists complete details of teeth along with bones and soft tissues in unprecedented levels of clarity which helps them locate cavities and tooth decay and jaw structure abnormalities before they become severe. Artificial intelligence stands as the main diagnostic force today. The AI-based software enables dental image 29 March 2025 www.arabinsightscare.com

  27. The Future Awaits: What's Next for Dentistry? examinations that detect patterns and notifies possible dental issues with exceptional accuracy rates. This approach prevents both time consumption and the possibility of human mistakes. Medical providers can examine patients more efficiently which allows them to deliver planned treatments that address specific individual requirements. Dental Technology Advances will continue to develop diagnostic instruments thus raising dental treatment accuracy levels. As we look out to the horizon, the possibilities of Dental Technology Advances appear limitless. Scientists are researching nanotechnology to deliver drugs at the microscopic level to heal tooth decay, and regenerative dentistry to cultivate new teeth with stem cells. Robotic surgery can soon aid in intricate operations with unmatched precision and consistency. These visions of the future, once the stuff of science fiction, are increasingly becoming realities. Revolutionizing Dental Care with Cutting-Edge Tools Beyond diagnostics, breakthroughs in dental technology are changing the way treatments happen. Take laser dentistry, for example. Lasers are now used for all sorts of procedures—like removing cavities or reshaping gums—and they’re way less painful than the old-school drill. Patients deal with less discomfort, less bleeding, and bounce back faster, making trips to the dentist a lot less intimidating. The linking of big data and predictive analytics also promises much. Through analyzing huge quantities of patient data, dentists would be able to forecast the trends in oral health, determine vulnerable populations, and create preventive measures on an unprecedented scale. This anticipatory practice could significantly curb the incidence of dental diseases, going along with the holy grail of dentistry: healthy smiles for life. Conclusion Then there’s the game-changer: 3D printing. This tech is pumping out dental implants, crowns, bridges, and even clear aligners like Invisalign in just days. What used to take weeks of back-and-forth with a lab can now happen in one visit thanks to in-office 3D printers. It’s not just faster—it delivers a better, more precise fit for patients. Offering custom-made dental fixes right then and there shows how much these advancements are all about making things easier and better for people. The landscape of dentistry is evolving under our feet, fueled by Dental Technology Advancements that are revolutionizing every facet of the profession. From smarter diagnostics to cutting-edge treatments, increased accessibility, and improved patient experiences, technology is ushering in an era of unparalleled progress. As these technologies advance, they offer the promise of a future with not only better but also more accessible and patient- centered dental care. The rules have changed, though—and the future of dentistry has never looked brighter. Teledentistry: Bringing Care Closer to Home The future of dentistry isn’t just about what’s happening in the chair—it’s about meeting patients where they are. Teledentistry, powered by slick digital communication tools, is breaking down barriers to care. With virtual appointments, folks can chat with their dentist, describe what’s going on, and get solid advice without stepping foot outside. It’s a lifeline for people in far-off rural spots or those who can’t easily get around. - Pearl Shaw Enhancing Patient Experience and Comfort For others, a visit to the dentist is a source of dread, but that all changes with advances in technology. Virtual reality and augmented reality are being researched as means of distraction for patients receiving treatment, allowing for immersive experiences that reduce stress. Consider having a root canal while walking through a serene forest using virtual reality—technology is making that a reality. March 2025 30 www.arabinsightscare.com
