  1. Famous Victorians WALT: to learn about some famous Victorians

  2. Can you think of any famous Victorians?

Queen Victoria • She was born in 1819 in London • When she was 18 years old she became queen • She married her handsome cousin Albert a young prince from Germany (she proposed to him) • Albert didn’t speak English very well and lots of people didn’t like him • Her reign was the longest in British history (1837-1901).  People living at the time of her reign were called The Victorians'.

  4. Joseph Lister (1827-1912) • A Scottish surgeon who realised the importance of keeping wounds and equipment clean and germ free during operations

  5. Thomas Edison (1847-1931) • He was the inventor of over a thousand ideas which transformed life in the late 19th century • He invented the modern day light bulb

  6. Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) • He was the author of Alice in Wonderland

  7. Benjamin Disreali (1804-1881) • Prime Minister

  8. Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922) • Inventor of the telephone

  9. Brunel (1806-1859) • An engineer who specialised in railway traction, steam ships and bridges

  10. William Gladstone (1809-1898) • A liberal politician who was Prime Minister 4 times

  11. Task 1-Page 1- Inventions • Look at four important inventions • Draw a picture of the invention, explaining who designed and when • Use your blank page and divide it into 4

  12. Task 2- Famous Victorians • Look at the books about the Victorians. • Find at least 5 people and explain why they were famous. • Your jotter should look like this: • Do this on your lined page • Benjamin Disraeli- Prime Minister

  13. Task 3- on the same page • Choose one of the famous Victorians and bullet point as many facts about them as you. • What sort of information can you include? • When they were born, died, what they are famous for and so on

  14. Task 4- keep in jotter • Computer • Choose one of the famous Victorians and complete the fact file about them. • Keep this in your jotter
