  2. international airport (Veer Savarkar International Airport). Consider making Port Blair the starting point for your excursion to the tourist attractions on the Andaman Islands. Are There Any Sightseeing Opportunities in Port Blair? Yes! Furthermore, from a tourism standpoint, Port Blair is a very important travel destination. When arriving at the Andaman Tour Package and Nicobar Islands, passengers initially arrive at Veer Savarkar International Airport (the sole airport in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands). As a result, the travel destinations in Port Blair are a cluster of six islands, four of which are major – Chatham Island, Garacharma Island, Ross Island, and Snake Island. There are sites of interest in Port Blair for people of all ages. For example, youngsters would enjoy exploring Mouth Harriet National Park in search of flora and fauna. Backpackers will want to experience the thrills of snorkelling, parasailing, and jet skiing at Rajiv Gandhi Watersports Complex. Additionally, family tours can enjoy themselves in the museums. Finally, couples, leisure, and bleisure tourists will have a fantastic time island hopping. 1. Cellular Jail (Kala Pani Jail): A symbol of British oppression of Indian independence fighters. Cellular Jail, a silent testament to the noble sacrifice of Indian freedom warriors, is one of the most visited places in Port Blair. It is now a national memorial, but before independence, the heroic Indian freedom fighters were imprisoned and tortured. In the evenings, Cellular Jail hosts a light and sound performance that depicts how the British invaders tortured our valiant victims. There is a museum, a photo gallery, and a library within the Cellular Jail where you may read the books that were given to the freedom fighters. Light and Sound Show Timings: Two shows per day at 6 PM (Hindi) and 7:15 PM (English), with camera admission limited. Entry to the Light & Sound Show costs approximately $30 for Indians and $100 for foreigners. Gypsy Note: Video camera, professional camera, and handy camera fees are extra. Guides can be hired for roughly $200 per hour. Why is Port Blair’s Cellular Jail famous in the Andamans?

  3. Britishers used to subject their subjects to soul-destroying slave labour. The former penal colony was intended to break persons who spoke out for Indian independence. Explore the history of Cellular Jail on a guided tour of the Jail Museum located within the facility. Furthermore, the architecture of this facility is torturous enough because it was designed to keep political prisoners as lonely as possible. As a result, Kala Pani Ki Saza was ranked as the second most heinous punishment during the British Raj. Finally, Cellular Jail is well-known today because it housed prominent prisoners such as Batukeshwar Dutt and Veer Savarkar, who advocated for India’s freedom. 2. Sri Vetrimalai Murugan Temple – Exhibits Outstanding Dravidian Architecture Deities: Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Parvati Darshan hours are 5 AM – 12 PM and 4 AM – 9 PM. Entry Fee: No entry fee for all Ideal Time allotted: 1 hour (approx.) Sri Vetrimalai Murugan Temple, regarded as one of the best Hindu temples in Port Blair, is devoted to Lord Murugan, Lord Shiva’s son. Because Sri Vetrimalai Murugan Temple is one of Andaman’s few temples, it is one of the greatest sites to visit with family in Port Blair. Additionally, couples, travellers, and even leisure visitors can attend the year-round aarti at the temple. In the winter, the area surrounding the temple is used for picnics. Why is the Sri Vetrimalai Murugan Temple in Port Blair so well-known? To begin with, the temple is a combination of Dravidian architecture inspired by south Indian temples. Second, in terms of architecture, it is similar to any other temple in Tamil Nadu. Third, Tamil residents and devotees of other races have contributed their souls to the construction of the Sri Vetrimalai Murugan Temple. 3. Subhash Chandra Bose Island (Ross Island): Witness the Golden Age of British Aristocracy Hours of Operation: The island is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (afterward, no entry is allowed) A half-day journey is ideal.

  4. Attractions to See on Ross Island: Old Presbyterian Church, Club House Remains, and Ferar Beach Previously dedicated to Marine Surveyor Daniel Ross, this tourist attraction in Port Blair has been renamed by India’s current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. It is now dedicated to Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, and hence bears the name Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. During the British invasion, this island served as their headquarters. Japanese World War II relics might be spotted nearby. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island (Ross Island) features museums and parks, but the centrepiece is the light and sound spectacle. For the time being, the island is under British navvy control, therefore visitors may face some restrictions. The best part? Scuba diving excursions and underwater sea walking expeditions in Ross Island’s stunning blue seas are popular.
