  1. How to Perform CPR: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving technique used in emergencies when someone's heart stops beating or they stop breathing. Knowing how to perform CPR can make all the di?erence in a critical situation. While it may seem intimidating, CPR can be broken down into easy-to-follow steps that anyone can learn. Check the Scene and the Person Before you start CPR, ensure the area is safe for both you and the person in need of assistance. Check if there is any danger, such as traffic, fire, or electrical hasards. Once the area is secure, check the person for responsiveness by gently tapping their shoulder and shouting loudly, Are you okay? If there’s no response, they may be unconscious, and you can proceed with CPR. Call for Help If the person is unresponsive, immediately call emergency services. If you're alone, dial the emergency number for your location. If there are others nearby, ask someone to make the

  2. call for help while you begin CPR. It’s crucial to have professional medical assistance on the way as soon as possible. Open the Airway Place one hand on the person’s forehead and the other under the chin, then gently tilt their head back. This position opens the airway, allowing you to check if the person is breathing. Look for signs of breathing, such as chest movement or the sound of breathing. If there is no normal breathing, proceed with CPR. Chest Compressions Chest compressions are the most important part of CPR. Kneel beside the person and place the heel of one hand in the center of their chest, just below the breastbone. Place the other hand on top of the first, interlocking your fingers. With your elbows straight, use your body weight to press down hard and fast. Compressions should be at least 2 inches deep, at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute. Allow the chest to rise completely between compressions, but do not lift your hands o? the chest. Rescue Breaths After 30 chest compressions, it’s time to give 2 rescue breaths. First, pinch the person’s nose shut and cover their mouth with yours, creating an airtight seal. Give a breath that lasts about 1 second, watching for the chest to rise. Give a second breath in the same manner. If you're not trained in giving rescue breaths, or if you're unable to do so, continue with chest compressions alone. Continue CPR Keep repeating the cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths until the person starts breathing on their own, or emergency help arrives. If you're too exhausted to continue, or if the person begins to breathe normally, stop CPR and monitor their condition while awaiting professional help. Special Considerations There are some variations in how CPR should be performed depending on the age of the person involved. For infants and children, chest compressions should be shallower and faster, and a di?erent technique for rescue breaths should be used. If you’re unsure about how to adjust CPR for di?erent age groups, seek proper training.

  3. Conclusion Knowing how to perform CPR is an essential skill that can save lives during emergencies. By following these easy-to-understand steps, you can act quickly and e?ectively when someone’s heart stops beating. Remember, CPR can be the di?erence between life and death, and learning how to perform it correctly gives you the confidence to handle these high-pressure situations. Consider taking a certified CPR course to further practice and refine your skills so you can help when it matters most.
