The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport run by the Adani Group is all set to move to a new terminal by April 2025. The completion of the terminal was initially stated for December 2024. However, there have been certain postponements and business operations were delayed because of certain modifications that were made to the airport development plan. However, the operations are again on track and the terminal is all set to become operational by April 2025. This is a huge step taken by Adani Airlines in the airport sector. THE PLANS FOR THE NEW TERMINAL: The Adani Group has elaborate plans to make this new terminal at the Guwahati airport the most efficient terminal in the country. It will be equipped with various advanced facilities and ensure that Guwahati becomes well-connected to other regions. The Union Cabinet has already approved the leasing of the Guwahati airport for operation, management, and development to Adani Enterprises. The lease was offered for 50 years starting from August 2020. The Airport Authority of India was initially in the process of developing the new terminal of the airport. However, after the lease was released, the authority was given to the Gujarat-based company. This has been a part of the new privatisation drive. It will help the Adani Group in ensuring that the business operations get carried out smoothly.

The Chief Airport Officer, Utpal Baruah, has recently mentioned that the master plan has been prepared for the terminal and has been shared with all the concerned facilities. During the first phase, the airport will have a brand new integrated terminal building. This is going to be almost six times larger than the present terminal. The new terminal is expected to have a capacity of 13.1 million passengers per annum. The existing capacity is 3.4 million passengers per annum. Over INR 2,000 crore is being spent in this facility. Out of this amount, INR 1,600 crore is being invested in the terminal building. The remaining amount will be spent on the construction of a new taxiway and the expansion of the existing runway
