Back to School Tips for Parents
Kids go back to school in just a couple of weeks. Have you thought about what your kids want for their school supplies? Get the kids ready for back to school by making a list of everything they’ll need. Teachers usually send handouts before the first day with all of the supplies and homework requirements. Here are some tips and easy ways to get organised before sending them off:
01 02 Start early! Make a plan before heading to the store! Don’t wait until right before labour day weekend when everyone is scrambling trying to find clothes and supplies that match after the holidays. The earlier you shop, the better selection you will have and the cheaper everything will be! Make your list early so you know what supplies your kids need for this school year. Name labels in Australia are common and those labels help in figuring out which items belongs to your kids so don’t forget to include them in your list.
03 04 Buy pencils/ pens/ mark makers/ coloured pencils in bulk. Buy folders or binders that clip together. Teachers go through lots of them throughout the school year! Plus, kids lose these things all the time so it’s nice to have extras on hand. This way your child can separate their homework into different sections instead of having to open up a huge binder every time they need something.
05 06 Organize lunches by making sandwich bags with the name and date stuck onto adhesive labels for easy labelling. Have kids use their new supplies around the house! Make sure everything is working and they know where to find things that will help them in school such as a ruler, pencil sharpener, erasers, etc. Make sure everything is labelled so you don’t forget anything at home! You can put some personalised name stickers to label them.
07 08 Create a list of items to take to school on the first day. Don’t forget about organising kids clothing too This will help your kids remember everything they need and hopefully save you some last-minute phone calls from school. Label kids clothes so you don’t have to wonder what size or who it belongs to when doing laundry. For kids’ clothes, I like using iron-on clothing labels because they won’t fall off during washing/drying as stick labels might do.
09 10 If your child is bringing school lunches to school, try making reusable ice packs. Stick labels If you’re sending your child off with drinks such as juice boxes or water bottles, stick labels on them so other kids know they don’t belong to them. It’s much better than using a paper towel and ziplock bag every day. Another option is to buy a small container of frozen fruit and pack it in the freezer overnight.
Make sure you have a safe place at home for kids This is where to store their homework and school supplies so they don’t lose anything, get lost, or end up in the wrong hands! 11 Just make sure your child knows where it is and that nothing else is stored on top of it already! Kids school labels make a big help, too!
There are so many things to do and parents really need to prepare themselves well before school starts. Being organised is the key for parents because if they’re not, it will be hard for them to help their kids during the first day of school. Parents do have a hectic lifestyle ahead of them but knowing these simple yet effective tips will help them out. Happy parenting!
