  2. Head Trauma – Introduction What is Head Trauma? • Head trauma is any injury to the head, scalp, skull, or brain. Head injury can be classified in a variety of ways, depending on the nature of the injury, the structural damage to the head, or the severity of the injury. • Most headaches are mild and can be treated with a mild painkiller. However, some head pain is a sign of a serious or life-threatening medical condition. Do not ignore unexplained head pain, or head pain that gets worse over time.

  3. Head Trauma – Symptom Symptoms • Head trauma symptoms vary from person to person and depend on the severity of the injury. • Signs of mild head trauma include :- • A raised, swollen area on the head due to a bump or bruise. • A small, superficial cut in your scalp. • Headache

Head Trauma – Risk Factor Risk Factor • Head trauma is when a person's head is hit or shaken, usually from a car accident, gunfight, sports, fall, or some other violent act, like child abuse. • This can cause bruising and damage to the brain and internal organs. The bruise at the site of the impact is called a coup, and it's caused by the brain jolting backward and hitting the skull on the other side. • This bruise is called contrecoup. • When the brain is jolted backward, it can cut the inside of the skull and cause it to shear. This can lead to bleeding, more bruising, and swelling in the brain.

Head Trauma – Actions to be taken Actions to be taken in Adults Head Trauma • Individuals exhibiting symptoms of • Severe Head or Facial Bleeding. • Bleeding or Leaking from the Nose or Ear • Severe Headache. • Change in Level of Consciousness for More than a Few Seconds. • Black and Blue Discoloration Below the Eyes or Behind the Ear. • Ceasing of Breathing • Confusion • Loss of Balance • Weakness or Incapability to Use an Arm or Leg • Unequal Pupil Size • Slurred Speech • Seizures, and more.

  6. Head Trauma – Actions to be taken Actions to be taken in Children Head Trauma • In children, persistent crying is a common symptom, as is:- • Refusal to eat. • Infants may also experience bulging in the front of their head, as well as repeated vomiting.

  7. Head Trauma – Actions to be taken If severe head trauma occurs • Keep the injured person in a calm and quiet position until help arrives. • Keep their head and shoulders up and don't move them unless you need to. If they have a helmet on, don't take it off. • Try to stop any bleeding by applying a clean cloth or sterile gauze to the wound. • If you think there's a skull fracture, try to apply pressure directly to the wound. • Keep an eye on their breathing and how alert they are. If they don't show any signs of breathing, coughing, or movement, start CPR.
